  13. Construction Machinery and Vehicles on the Container Ship 2,500,000 units construction machines and commercial vehicles are exported to the world…… RORO ships are carrying most of them. Container ships are carrying almost nothing. However container ships need to carry machinery cargoes too. We are proposing Construction machines and vehicles can be carried on the container ship. We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  14. Problems of Oversized Machinery on Flat Rack • Oversized machinery on Flat Rack causes various problems. • Handling Problem • They have to be lifted by special gears, so extra work, time and cost are needed. • Stowing Problem • They have to be stowed at top tier • under deck, so loadable quantity • and spaces are very limited. • 3. Dead Space Problem • Over size makes too many dead spaces, • so freight is much expensive than RORO. We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  15. Machinery Maker’s View of Shipping on Container Ships • Makers want to use container ships but they can not. • Because of expensive freight and cost • Container freight is much expensive than RORO. • Because of spaces shortage and quantity limitation • The loadable spaces in the hold are very limited. • Just small quantity can be shipped. • But carriers can provide good freight and enough spaces. • Better freight than RORO can be provided. • Enough spaces in the holds can be provided at any time. • Big number of quantity can be shipped without limitation. We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  16. ‘Side by Side’ and ‘On and On’ Stowing is the Solution • Over sized machinery cargoes can be stowed ‘Side by Side’. • They can not be stowed ‘On and On’ in normal bulk hold. Bulk Ship • It is very easy to stow dry containers ‘Side by Side’ and ‘On and On’. • But machinery on flat rack can not be stowed ‘Side by Side’ and ‘On and On’. Container Ship • Over sized machinery cargoes can be stowed ‘Side by Side’ • They can be stowed ‘On and On’ with moveable decks. RORO Ship • If machinery cargoes can be shipped ‘Side by Side’ and ‘On and On’. • Container carriers can carry machinery cargoes very easily. Our Proposal We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  17. Oversized Machinery Cargoes Can be Containerized • Super Rack* can solve the Over Height problems. • Because Super Rack can be higher than cargo height. Adjustable Height a: 3.50 M 3.20 M 2.90 M 2.60 M 2.30 M b: 4.10 M 3.80 M 3.50 M 3.20 M 2.90 M a b We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  18. Over High Machinery on Super Rack • Small sized (7~12 ton) machines are over high. 2400 6300 2870 2850 609 2895 2286 We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  19. Handling Over High Machinery on Super Rack • Machinery can be handled and stacked like dry containers. • 1. No more lifting Problems • They can be picked up by spreader. • 2.No more stacking problems • They can be stacked ‘On and On’. We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  20. 3rd Tier • 3. No more dead space • Machinery cargoes can be stackable without dead spaces. • Each Super Rack can be shipped in 1.2~1.5 feu. 2nd Tier 1st Tier Over height problems are sorted out completely. 1st Row 2nd Row 3rd Row We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  23. Over Wide and Over High Machinery on Super Rack • Medium sized (17~25 ton) machines are over wide and over high. 2390 2438 28cm 28cm 914 3200 2286 We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  24. Heavy Trucks on the Super Rack • Commercial vehicles are 3 cm over wide both sides. • These vehicles are to be over high and over wide cargoes too. 8310 2438 3.1cm 3.1cm 1219 3505 2286 We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  25. Over Wide Cargoes on Super Rack We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  26. Stacking Over High and Wide Machinery on Super Rack • Over wide machines can be stacked ‘On and On’ too. • They can be shipped in 3.25~4.5 feu per machine. • This is big saving than 6.0 feu on flat rack. (25%~45% saving) • But there are still big dead spaces between machines. 4.50 feu per machine 4 machines in 18 feu 3.75 feu / m 8 m in 30 feu 3.50 feu / m 12 m in 42 feu 3.38 feu / m 16 m in 54 feu 3.30 feu / m 20 m in 66 feu 3.25 feu / m 24 m in 78 feu Enlarged on the next Page We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  27. Dead Space by Over Width • Over wide machines would have big dead spaces. Big Dead Space Big Dead Space • The spaces near by the over wide machines can not be used • They would be big dead spaces. • Without reducing these dead spaces, container carriers can not carry over wide machinery cargoes efficiently. They must be reduced. We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  28. How to Reduce Dead Spaces of Over Wide Cargoes • Dead spaces can be reduced by stowing cargoes ‘Side by Side’. • If cell guides are closer to the next cell guides, over wide machinery can be stowed ‘Side by Side’. • With reducing these dead spaces, they can be shipped in less than 2 feu per machine. We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  29. Hold for Stowing Oversized Machinery ‘Side by Side’ • This hold will have two different rows. We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  30. How to Make Two Different Rows This is Hybrid Hold. 12 feu Hybrid Hold OWR Container Row OWR Container Row OWR Container Row OWR • The hold will have Over Width Rows (OWR) and Container Rows (CR). • CR is for containers and • OWR is for over width. • One row (2.44 meter) can be shared to several Over Width Rows. • This hold can have three CRs, two 42 cm OWRs and two 80 cm OWRs. 42cm OWR 80cm OWR 80cm OWR 42cm OWR 1st Row 2nd Row 3rd Row We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  31. Over High and Wide Machinery in Hybrid Hold 12 feu Hybrid Hold OWR Container Row OWR Container Row OWR Container Row OWR • 78 machinery can be shipped in 135 feu Hybrid Hold. • Over wide and over high machines can be shipped in 1.73 feu per unit. • 5 feudead spaces can be reduced to 0.73 feu . 3rd Tier 2nd Tier 1st Tier 85% dead spaces can be reduced in Hybrid Hold. 2nd Row 1st Row 3rd Row We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  32. How to Ship Dry Containers in Hybrid Hold 12 feu Hybrid Hold • Dry containers can be shipped in Hybrid Hold too. • 117~126 dry containers can be shipped in 135 feu Hybrid Hold. • It can be shipped in 1.07~1.15 feu per box. • These OWR will be unusable spaces for dry boxes. OWR Container Row OWR Container Row OWR Container Row OWR 3rd Tier 2nd Tier 1st Tier These OWR can be made by ship’s unused spaces. 2nd Row 1st Row 3rd Row We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  33. Unused Spaces on the Container Ship • There would be 400 teu unused spaces on board. • These unused spaces can be reusable to make ‘Over Width Row’. • Over Width Rows can be made without extra cost. • They can be made on new ships at ship building yard. • 360 teu can make 10 Hybrid Holds. • 10 Hybrid Hold can carry 800 machines. • 800 machines can make $6 million freight income per sailing. 3% unused spaces ULTRA LARGE CONTAINER SHIP We are supporting container ship to carry more machinery cargoes

  34. Howto Make Hybrid Hold • The cell guides are essential to stow containers. • However they are just simple steel structures to secure containers in the hold. • They could be rearranged to new positions to make OWRs. • 2 Container Rows (488cm)can make 14 Over Width Rows (488cm).
