Dr. Val Harris Chair of ESB • The Endorsement and Quality Standards Board for Community Development Learning (known as ESB) was established in 1997 to promote quality learning for everyone engaged in community development. • ESB aims to provide a robust system of endorsement of quality for all types of training and learning in Community Development. Our role is to ensure quality standards in training and learning for community development practitioners. • We contribute to a proficient community development workforce accessing high quality learning through the endorsement of different learning opportunities.  • ESB seeks to ensure quality learning and certification in the following ways: • Endorsement of community development learning programmes • Certification of individuals learning through reflective practice • Recognition of community development reflective practice

What Next?Thoughts, questions and ideas • Are you interested in taking any of this forward? • What would  you want to see in any learning framework for yourself/ your staff/ team/ residents? • What type of provision- short courses, workshops, mentoring /recognition of practice, distance learning etc? • What level? introductory through to masters? • How important is certification? • What support do you think is needed from the likes of CIH etc. in order to professionalise this and bring it to the level of importance that is required given the current state of play in the sector and gov impetus.
