Battle of Dorylaeum • This battle was almost a disaster for the crusaders. • They where slaughtered by Turkish archers. • 50,000 soldiers of Kilij Arslan, Seljuk Sultan of Rum attacked from the side. • The crusader’s army had 150,000 to 350,000 men. • The crusaders were forced back to their camps. • Duke Godfrey helped them defeat the Turkish army.   12. Battle of Ascalon • The last battle of the First Crusades. • Al-Afdal raised 50,000 men to recapture the city. • Godfrey of Bouillon called scattered crusaders together. • The 10,000 crusaders were out numbered 5 to 1. • They charged Al-Afdal army by surprise. (Rickard)

  13. Crusades Armor The crusades used body armor like this. This is a crusader dressed for war. The crusaders also used armor for their horses. Crusaders used helmets for protection. (Rickard)

  14. Egyptian armor Egyptian used all types of armor like leather, chainmail, scale, lamellar, plate, ceramic and Kevlar armor for protection in battle. (Rickard)

  15. Horse armor The crusaders used horse armor to protect their horses in battle. (Rickard)
