  1. What is VoIP? By Shoaib Jussab

  2. Definition of VoIP • VoIP stands for voice over internet protocol it is a technology that lets telephone calls to be made over computer networks like the Internet.

  3. What does VoIP offer? • VoIP can work on any computer with broadband Internet access. It is less expensive for long distance calls than traditional phone plans. With some VoIP plans you can choose your own area code, so that it makes it cheaper while traveling. You can have other numbers and even email routed to your VoIP account. Most VoIP plans offer extra programs or applications that would cost you extra with traditional phone packages. These include conference calling, 3-way calling, voice email and voice fax.

  4. How does VoIP work? • VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), is a method for taking analog audio signals, like the kind you hear when you talk on the phone, and turning them into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet. • VoIP can turn a standard Internet connection into a way to place free phone calls. The advantage of this is that by using some of the free VoIP software you are not using the phone companies which means that you do not have to pay them.

  5. What would we do without VoIP? • Without VoIP people would not get value for money. People would be ripped off for making phone calls. People would have to pay a lot of money to make long distance calls.

  6. Example of VoIP • An example of VoIP is VoIP phone which looks like an ordinary corded or cordless telephone, but it connects directly to a computer network rather than a traditional phone line. A dedicated VoIP phone might have a phone and base station that connects to the internet or it might also operate on a local wireless network.

  7. Impacts on people and society which VoIP will have • The impact VoIP will have on people and society is that peoples phone bills will increase a lot making hard for them to phone people overseas. Also people will not be able to contact each other over the internet without VoIP.
