  1. Aluminum foil boat Goal Build a boat that holds the most possible pennies, using a piece of aluminum foil. You will build two boats and will try to improve your design between the first and the second. Rules • You must record all steps of the problem solving process. • You may only use a single piece of foil to build your boat • You may not touch or adjust your boat once it is in the water • You must add pennies one at a time

  2. Aluminum foil boat WORKSHEET FIRST TRY Define: State the problem in your own words? What are your constraints? What does success look like? What information, if any, is missing or not needed? Prepare / Plan:What kind of boat does your group plan on making? Write a description or draw a picture below. What are the strengths of this design? What possible weaknesses might this design have? Try: How many pennies did your boat hold? Reflect: Why did your boat eventually sink? What is working well? What needs to be improved? What can you learn from this or do better next time?

  3. Aluminum foil boat WORKSHEET FIRST TRY Define: Does your first definition of the problem hold true? If not what changes need to be made. Prepare / Plan:What kind of boat or changes to the boat does your group plan on making? Write a description or draw a picture below. Why do you feel this plan will be or not be more successful? Try: How many pennies did your boat hold? Reflect: Why did your boat eventually sink? What is working well? What needs to be improved? What can you learn from this or do better next time?

  4. WORDPRESS #1: TITLE: PROBLEM SOLVING: BOAT Did your group follow the the 4 step problem solving process? What step advanced the performance of your boat the most? (explain how) What step did you find to be of the least importance ? (explain how) Do you feel that everyone in your group contribute equally? Explain your role in the group. Give an example of a problem solving process that you have used in the past or how you can use this one in the future.
