  2. Hope needs to be nurtured in us “upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and regulations blamelessly. “ vs.6

  4. The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof. -- Barbara Kingsolver

  5. Hope contends with fear and despair “ . . . remember you were separate from Christ . . . without hope and without God in the world. Eph.2.12

  6. Despair is a premature anticipation of the non-fulfillment of what we hope for from God. The pain of despair lies in the fact that a hope is there, but no way opens up towards its fulfillment. Between hope and our experience faith takes a stand.

  11. Hope must be active

  12. Hope is not fatalistic resignation. It is not being compelled to work at keeping up appearances with a bogus spirituality. It is the opposite of desperate and panicky manipulations, of scurrying and worrying. It is not dreaming. It is not spinning an illusion or fantasy to protect us from our boredom or our pain.

  13. Hope means a confident, alert expectation that God will do what He said he will do. Hope means going about our lives, confident that God will provide the meaning and the conclusion.
