  1. Do Now: • You are in a supermarket and you notice a woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. • What are her genotypes? • Her husband comes along, with brown hair and green eyes. • What are his genotypes? • Mom calls for four names (each child) to come. The boys show up (2 with dad’s phenotypes and 2 with mom’s phenotypes). What does this tell you about mom & dad’s genotypes? • Write it out

  2. Do Now: • Two boys have dad’s phenotypes and two with mom’s phenotypes. • Mom – ggbb& Dad is GgBb. How do we know this? • If 2 of the kids had brown hair and green eyes and 2 others had blonde hair & blue eyes, dad must have some recessive traits. • If all the boys were brown hair and green eyes, we could only guess whether traits were all dominant or had recessive traits.

  3. Homework – due next class • Homework was to read pages 323-329 (Meiosis). Read and take notes. • Lab Write up due Thursday – explanation to follow • Also, define the following terms in your notebook: • Homologous Meiosis • Diploid Tetrad • Haploid Crossing-over • Mitosis

  4. Quick review & new stuff • What is Co-Dominance? Give an example? • Incomplete Dominance? Give an example? • Multiple alleles • Example from the reading – rabbit’s coat color • Polygenic – traits controlled by 2 or more genes.

  5. New material • The environment and gene expression • Sometimes the environment can cause color changes. Western White Butterfly. • Lab to finish

  6. Land fill lab • Get your land fill lab out and go through the individual pieces. What does it look like now? • Write in your notebooks any changes (things that broke down), any mold or changes in the materials. Why are these doing this? • Note any changes expected but maybe did not occur. • Please indicate how they were buried.

  7. Land fill lab • Lab write up – if we run out of time we will cover on Wednesday’s class.

  8. Before leaving Before you leave, clean up the area around your table. Make sure you have the homework(s) for tonight.
