  1. The Front Lines Life in the Trenches (A Webquest)

  2. A Letter has Arrived!

  3. Dear Solider, Congratulations on your appointment to the front lines. Your hard work and dedication has landed you into one of the most prestigious positions available in the American Army. As always the people on the home front are curious about the action on the front line. As part of your assignment you will be required to document your daily experiences. Please familiarize yourself with all aspects of life on the front lines as a war correspondent will be sent to shadow you and collect all of your experiences for a movie reel that will be sent to the states. We expect a thorough report, and will be evaluating your results. Please use the resourceswe sent to guide your documentations. Sincerely, Robert Hayes

  4. As part of your report be sure to answer the following questions: • what were the four types of trenches used by the Allies? • Why do you think the trenches were formed in a zig‐zag type pattern? • What was the Western Front? •  What was the purpose of a trench? • "No man's land" and "going over the top" are phrases he keeps writing about. What are they? They sound frightening! Are they?  Why?  • Identify in detail the four causes of World War One? • Explain the conditions in the trenches and tactics used to fight the enemy. Your research on conditions must include the following topics: parapet, dugout, sand bags, lice, rats, frogs, alcohol, stand to, fire step, latrines, listening posts, and smells (be very specific and detailed. Give me as much as possible here). • Identify at least 5 types of weapons used by both sides including your weapon. Cross reference the term "mechanized warfare" in your answer. • Why do you want America to enter the war and identify at least two reasons why you think they'll enter the war. • Identify at least 3 actual battles that you were in. Who won these battles and why? What your role in these battles was. • Please give your overall impressions of the war and end the letter with your signature. • Describe what daily life in the trenches is like when soldiers are NOT fighting a battle. What do you do to pass time or entertain yourself?

  8. Dear Correspondent, Congratulations! We are sending you to the front lines! You will be following a solider and creating visual documentation of his daily life. You will be responsible for collecting pictorial images as well as movie reels that can be sent back to the home front. The solider you are working with will be creating a letter that will recount the experiences that you are visually documenting. Thank you for playing such an important supportive role in the war effort. We look forward to your broadcast!
