  5. purpose of WG 5: • to provide the bridge between the base standards under development, and existing standards and products • to provide a mechanism to put the base standards to use • two projects: • 15046-6 Profiles • 15854 Functional Standards Presentation to 7th Plenary of ISO TC 211, Beijing, China, 24 September 1998

  6. international GI standards already exist • on the ISO/TC 211 agenda is the harmonisation of existing standards into profiles of more general standards • main goal of TC 211 is interoperability, for • flow and re-use of information • competition on an equal basis • reduction of costs Presentation to 7th Plenary of ISO TC 211, Beijing, China, 24 September 1998
