  2. The Life Cycle of a Butterfly The Butterfly has many stages in it’s life.

  3. Egg • The butterfly begins its life as an egg. • The egg is laid on milkweed leaves.

  4. Caterpillar • The egg hatches into a caterpillar and it eats milkweed. • The caterpillars grow very quickly.

  5. Pupa • When the caterpillar is ready it makes the pupa to begin to convert.

  6. Butterfly forms in the pupa • 24 hours prior to the release

  7. Butterfly breaks free • When the butterfly is done forming in the pupa stage, the butterfly begins to break free.

  8. The Adult Butterfly • When the butterfly breaks free it forms into a beautiful adult butterfly in a variety of shapes and colors.
