4. This presentation was compiled by the University of Texas at El Paso Library Safety Committee, after an extensive research effort on book truck safety. The committee agreed on the need to compile a presentation since there was no other information available. July 18, 2001 Safety Committee members: Sebastian Diaz, Chair Anne Allis Ma. BOOK TRUCK SAFETY DOíS AND DONíT IN HANDLING BOOK TRUCKS Do NOT double stack trucks Do NOT push book truck from the sides Do NOT overload trucks Do NOT pull trucks Do NOT try to stop a falling truck Do NOT handle two trucks at one time Do NOT carry the weight on one side Do NOT climb or sit on book trucks DO fill each level fully Do load book truck starting with the bottom shelf, first DO center the books on each level ALWAYS BE ALERT! DO USE COMMON SENSE WHEN TRANSPORTING BOOKS!

6. DO NOT DOUBLE STACK TRUCKS

7. DO NOT PLACE BOOKS ON TOP OF EACH OTHER

8. DO NOT LOAD ON ONE SIDE

9. DO LOAD ON CENTER

10. DO FILL EACH LEVEL FULLY

11. Always load book truck starting with the bottom shelf first

12. PROPER BOOK TRUCK HANDLING TECHNIQUES

13. PUSH FROM ONE END

14. DO NOT PUSH FROM THE SIDES

15. DO NOT PULL TRUCKS

16. DO NOT HANDLE TWO TRUCKS AT ONE TIME

17. DO NOT CLIMB OR SIT ON BOOK TRUCKS

18. ALWAYS BE ALERT OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS

19. DO NOT TAKE BOOK TRUCKS DOWN A RAMP ALONE

20. DO NOT LEAVE BOOK TRUCKS UNATTENDED

21. BE CAREFUL WHEN ENTERING OR LEAVING ELEVATORS

22. DO NOT TRY TO STOP A FALLING TRUCK

23. IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER Do NOT over load book trucks DO distribute weight evenly Move book trucks carefully on and off elevators, around corners, and in narrow passages
