  2. belay being tied to a person or a rock with a rope for safety This climber is on belay which means that he is tied to a safety rope that a person below him is holding.

  3. descent A trip down into or from something, such as a mountain He is in decent from the mountain because he is climbing down to the bottom.

  4. harness A set of straps that can attach to a safety rope The straps and ropes around this climber are put together to make the safety harness.

  6. rappel To come down a cliff by sliding down a rope This climber is rappelling down a rope.

  7. trekked To make a slow and difficult journey on foot These hikers trekked a long time through the exhausting trail.
