  5. Background information The United States has acquired a land called Bora Gora. It is a newly found island in the Pacific Ocean that has a similar climate and growing season as the Great Plains. There is very little developed on the island. There is no electric, cable, Internet, and no means of traveling other than animals that you bring with you. The United States has committed to fully develop the island within ten years to include all the modern amenities families have in United States. There also is a very unhappy group of indigenous people that the US is trying to assimilate to American culture. It is possible they might attack to re-claim their land.

  6. The Task • Write a short essay (400-700 words) that responds to the following offer: • *Your family will get 160 acres (6,969,600 square feet) of land to have for a $500 filing fee. • *You must go live there now. • *You must improve the land. • *You cannot sell the land for 5 years. Will you and your family take the offer? Why or why not? What will you do to improve the land? What might be your long term use for the land to maximize it’s value?

  7. Task Pt. 2 • *Your essay should have an introduction, two body papragraphs, and a conclusion. • *Make sure that you decide whether your family would take the offer and explain why. • * Give a minimum of two hardships that would face your family when you move there.
