Final versions will be submitted in December 2013 – month 22 D 3.3 Nine process-tracing reports (Month 34) D 3.4 Two policy papers (Month 40)

Case selection Three complementary approaches to identify achievers: • significant change in WGI CC indicator 1996-2011; • regional positive outliers; • over-performance according to modernization determinants (income, urbanization, education, life expectancy) ; Background reports by experts will act like a check on whether this is really the case.

  5. D. 3.3 Process tracing case study reports • Methodology was sent by Alina and will be discussed next weeks. • Main discussion on process tracing reports will take place during the workshop in Hamburg • Not all background reports will be used for process tracing

  6. Discussion • Suggestion by GIGA about analyzing also regression cases and include a contrast between human agency and structural factors/incentive structures; • UNOTT supports the inclusion of regression cases and the tracing of critical moments determining these regressions
