  6. Patent policy • As an SC, this session is covered by the WG Patent policy announcements. • Even though we don’t have to read the policy to SC attendees, all attendees are reminded that the policies are in effect and apply to SC sessions. Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc.

  7. 802 Organization & Architecture revision • Draft 1.2 is in the 802.11 members area (no change since July meeting) • Instructions to access all needed documents are here: • http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/11/LetterBallots/LB802architecture802/LB802architecture_instructions.html • Status: • First letter ballot completed. In comment resolution. • Comments ‘assigned’ to 802.11 have been resolved. • Latest update comment resolutions are in 11-11/1053r0 (but see slide #10 in this, 11-11/1251, document) • Still awaiting completion of comment resolution and new ballot (anticipate November, 2011) Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc.

  8. Background - 802.1 Architecture Document Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc

  9. Background - 802.1 Architecture Document Abstract: IEEE Std 802-2001, IEEE Standard for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks: Overview and Architecture, provides an overview to the family of IEEE 802 standards. It describes the relationship of the IEEE 802 standards to the Open Systems Interconnection Basic Reference Model [ISO/IEC 7498-1:1994] and explains the relationship of these standards to the higher layer protocols; it provides a standard for the structure of LAN MAC addresses; it provides a standard for identification of public, private, prototype, and standard protocols; and it defines an Object Identifier hierarchy used within IEEE 802 for uniform allocation of Object Identifiers used in IEEE 802 standards Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc

  10. Updated RM diagram submitted to 802 O&A • Proposed diagram for 802.11 RM (Annex B) updated to current REVmb (D10.0) Figure 4-15, to include 802.11u/802.21 concepts: Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc

  11. Updated RM diagram submitted to 802 O&A • Diagram edited during the session to show the access to the MAC_SAP in the non-802.1X case: • Agreement to send this version to 802 Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc

  12. Discussion on O&A ballot • Limited “real” change to 802 architectural concepts so far, in the proposed draft(s). • Discussion? • Comment to 802 that the O & A must be considered a “living document”, that can evolve as new technologies come about (and associated architectural changes, if any). • Mark H ACTION to propose text for the O&A front material to this effect Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc

  13. ARC Future Activities & sessions • SC Chair & WG Chair have (in 2009) decided to “hibernate” the ARC SC… • until industry conditions improve, or • a specific focused task is requested of the SC for which the is sufficient volunteer interest Therefore, ARC SC will continue NOT to schedule formal sessions, until/unless the above happens • If you have a topic that you would like ARC SC assistance with, contact the SC chair and we’ll see what we can do. Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc.

  14. Planning for November 2011 • Plan for one meeting slot • ARC SC will schedule teleconferences with 10 days notice • To discuss any specific requests that arise • Teleconference topics (potential), between September and November: • Discussion of 802.11 position on architectural concepts • If 802 O&A comment resolutions approach closure, discussion of resolutions Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc.

  15. September session minutes • Wednesday 9/21/2011 • V. Chair called session to order • Agenda approved • 802 Organization & Architecture revision ballot comments discussed • Documents 11-11/1053r0, 11-11/1251r0 (slide #10) • Updated 802.11 RM diagram submission, see slide #11 • Agreed to prepare front material text clarifying O&A as a “living document” • Future plans discussion • Anticipate a session slot in November to consider comments for next 802 O&A ballot • Consider a teleconference, with 10 days notice, to discuss ballot resolutions on current 802 O&A ballot • Session adjourned Mark Hamilton, Polycom, Inc.
