  2. Grading… • Your grade on analysis-assignments will be based upon the complexity of your responses: • Does the answer respond to all parts of the question? • To what extent is the response insightful? • Does the response provide evidence to support the response?

  3. For example, the first question asks you to identify the speaker. • Example of a poorresponse (D): “The speaker is Jonathan Edwards (1741).” This response provides minimal detail and no direct textual evidence to answer the question.

  4. Example of a medium response (C or B-): “The speaker, a minister from Northampton, Connecticut, holds strong, unrelenting views on religion. “Your Wickedness makes you as it were heavy as Lead.” ” This example provides more detail, but stops short based on the information provided.

  5. Example of a strong response (A or B+): “Jonathan Edwards (1741) is a First Great Awakening pastor in Northampton, Connecticut whose articulate and highly connotative style reflects a man of strong religious conviction. For Edwards, the choice is black and white: God is “angry” and “wrathful”, and “Without promise or obligation” to mankind, and the congregants must “Serve God” or “Otherwise drop into hell.” ”
