UTFAB Funding Proposal RamCard Upgrade for Continuing Students

This proposal seeks funding for a RamCard upgrade for continuing students, allowing them to access various campus facilities and services.   1. UTFAB Funding ProposalRamCard Upgrade for Continuing Students Spring 2009 Neal Lujan, RamCard Office

  2. Background • New smart chip in RamCard expands campus access for students • Original plan was to phase in (4-5 Yrs.) distribution of the smart chip to new students as they attended orientation • Need for RamCard with the smart chip is coming quicker than imagined

  3. Background Continued • New Computer Science Building will use a keyless access system for student labs. After-hours entry will require the new smart RamCard. • Other possible smart RamCard uses: • Library access during expanded hours • Restricted lab/building access • Entry to campus events • Transfort Bus pass

  4. Continuing students will more likely choose to get a new RamCard if they do not have to pay for it

  5. This proposal asks the UTFAB to fund a RamCard upgrade for Continuing Students through the University Technology Fee

  6. Scope & Schedule • Continuing students with an old RamCard can trade it in for an upgraded card • Students who lost or damaged their RamCard will have to pay for a replacement • Upgrades could be offered January through June 2009

  7. Preparing for the rush • Standard Office Hours 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday • Expanded hours will be added to cover select evenings & weekends • Double the number of card production stations for the project

  8. Getting the word out RamCard • Collegian Advertisements • CTV Story • LSC Food Court Table Tents • Posters at Strategic Campus Locations: • Classroom Buildings, Recreation Center, Lory Student Center, Morgan Library, etc. • Ram Select Email • Facebook Advertisement • Other ideas?

UTFAB Funding Rules Covered This Project . . . • Benefits all continuing students who choose to trade in their RamCard • Effectively utilizes the University Technology Fee • Uses no College Charges for Technology • Has high potential for direct student use • Leverages resources from the RamCard Office as a co-sponsor • Has low cost & high benefit for continuing students

ASCSU Endorsement • This proposal has the support of past and present ASCSU leadership “Both Taylor and myself support/ endorse your proposal to UTFAB in regards to re-carding the student population so that they will have access to the new Computer Science building as well as access to the technology that the new cards provide.” Quinn Girrens
