  1. PacketController Win Customers with Smart QoS

  2. Agenda • The bottleneck • PacketController Methodology • PacketController Core Technology • Case Study Implementation • Products Portfolio • Who and What is PacketController

  3. Bottlenecks

  4. Bottlenecks How to manage over subscription How to increase revenues and reduce CAPEX and OPEX How to offer new services attracting new customers How to retain existing customers How to offer premium service to increase ARPU How to control and contain security threats

  5. PacketController Methodology

  6. Network Neutrality • It controls each and every subscriber by different service plans through the classification of its IP addresses, no matter what applications subscriber uses. • It is zero maintenance because there is no need to adjust every time when network traffic pattern changes • It is cost effective because there is no need for endless application signature update • It is scalable because it means less CPU cycle overhead

  7. Key Features • Ability to classify both inbound and out bound traffic using a single policy • Named network object and groups support • Global policies for multiple interfaces • Manages inbound UDP traffic from the host • Fine grained control of Bandwidth Inbound, Outbound or total • True 10 Gigabit - high throughput available on the market • Lowest latency - on the market • Unlimited Sessions or Policies

  8. Business Benefits • Optimizes your network usage and performance • Moves best effort delivery to a predictable service • Dedicates the correct amount of bandwidth to your users and applications – increasing user productivity • satisfaction and performance of all your applications • Enforces service level agreements with effective management of your bandwidth – reducing management, support and maintenance costs • Allows the business to eliminate and delay costly bandwidth upgrades

  9. PacketController Core Technology

  10. Large Policy Set Root Node Sub Node A Sub Node B Sub Node C Policy Policy Policy Policy Policy Policy Policy Policy • 100K QoS Policies at 5Gbps full duplex PacketController internal policy mapping makes it scalable with 100K QoS policies, you could manage each and every subscriber by classification of its IP address QoS Policy Model

  11. Uplink Threshold-Based Burst The subscriber service dynamically adjusted based on the network traffic

  12. Automatic P2P bandwidth usage throttling It monitors bandwidth usage of each and every online subscriber, and it identifies the “heavy-subscriber” and push them down automatically. 1Mbps 512kbps 256kbps 5 Min 5 Min 5Min Subscriber (1Mbps service plan) throughput is more than 1Mbps ALL THE TIME during 5 minutes The subscriber automatically pushed down to 256Kbps The subscriber automatically pushed down to 512Kbps

  13. Case Study Implementation

  14. QoS Requirements • Different service levels with 3 groups: home broadband, business packages and CIR packages • Maximize the uplink usage with current subscribers • Elegant operation model for heavy customers

  15. Implementation (part 1) • Set 2 types of home broadband - Home broadband shared in contentions 8:1, 10:1, etc. on different service plans, for examples: 256Kb DL and 128Kb UL, 512Kb DL and 256Kb UL - Home broadband capped package like 1GB @ 512Kb DL, the customer will be automatically alerted by email before PacketController movers the customer to a slower package • Set business packages • Set CIR packages for business

  16. Implementation (part 2) • All packages to be configured such that they are burstable within the contention, meaning that if a user is on 512Kb 1:10 and active downloads are two, then those two users can use the rest of the bandwidth within the 512Kb until another starts using and thereby the bandwidth will also be shared proportionally

  17. Implementation (part 3) • Downloads to be on the max purchased contention and reduced to 3/4 after 10 minutes and then to 1/2 after another 10 minutes and finally down to 1/4 until the rest of the download completed.
