  2. General Conference Information

  3. RanjitSidhu

  4. RanjitSidhu-comments • ACT is a for profit company, students pay for this test. I believe it is in their best interest to provide workshops to students on test taking techniques as well as content criteria. • Excellent presentation! • Great launch to the conference and very relevant! • He is very interesting and entertaining as well. • I thought he was very thought provoking! • great speaker and I was impressed that he went the extra step to focus on Montana rather than just the national trends. • Very interesting! Really good presentation

  5. Kevin Connolly

  6. Kevin Connolly-comments • Great speaker but did not see the relevancy to MCAN • I have seen Kevin speak before so my rating may be affected by him basically giving the same presentation. • I would have liked Kevin to make a more specific, direct connection to the mission of MCAN and his personal experiences. • Kevin Connolly is nothing but inspiring. • Kevin Connolly was amazing! Thank you for the book! I bought an extra one for a gift. • Love Kevin...he is always an inspiration. How can he not be good?? • very encouraging. • very interesting, but not overly relevant.

  7. Paul Anderson

  8. Paul Anderson-comments • Another amazing speaker - I wish all teachers were this tech-savvy and engaged with their students. I wish I was that tech-savvy too! • Amazing!!!!! • Definitely the best speaker at the conference. • Do not serve breakfast while speaker is presenting Very enthusiast and energizing.....wish I could be a student in his classroom; reminds us why we do the work we do • Excellent job! • Great speaker, he was practical yet had a vision for change. • He is amazing and I wish all students could have a teacher like him. • He was great, I wish my kids could of had a teacher like him. • He was my favorite speaker. Wow! • Outstanding all around! I only wish all of our Montana students could have teachers like Paul! • Paul is a fantastic person and speaker, I'm sorry I missed him. • Paul was awesome. I would have liked a longer session with him. Great information and speaker! You should definitely bring him back. • This was my favorite presentation of all. I wish all schools would embrace this type of innovative teaching. Maybe some of us ex-teachers wouldn't have left the field if we had the type of freedom Paul has to teach. • wonderful! • Wow • Wow! I wish he could teach teaching students how to be teachers! • Wow, I'm honored to have heard from him. Would love to see his classroom setup

  9. Pam Krueger and Jack Gallagher

  10. Pam Krueger and Jack Gallagher-comments • Content was very basic..........nothing new, especially in LLOONNGG session. • Did not see the relevancy to MCAN.....based on experience and expertise of the presenters, the presentation could have been tailored to education and the audience more • Disappointed - did not learn anything new from them. • Geared more toward adults rather then students. • Having them on the floor made it difficult to see because they didn't move around. • I didn't think this pair told us anything specific enough to be useful. They were entertaining but not new information for me. • I don't intend to sound harsh, these two just didn't seem like the right fit for this group, but it seemed like they could be an entertaining. • I found them boring and their message, while a good one, could have been delivered in about 3 minutes. I also hated how often Pam Krueger interrupted or talked over her speaking companion. That turned me off so found it hard to listen with open mind. • I think had they been more prepared for who their audience was, and the information that would be useful to assisting families/policy makers to assist families in areas where a vast majority of individuals/families are low-income it would have been a much more engaging and useful talk. I was really looking forward to the time on the agenda, but extremely disappointed during/after. It absolutely put me over the edge and I would have liked to walk out, when they gave the SAME EXACT speal at the MFEC conference, not a totally different, but vastly different audience than MCAN. • I was very disappointed on Wednesday to hear the exact same speech from these two presenters. Given that many of us had been there for the first one, I expected a more in-depth speech to the financial literacy group. Did you have to pay them twice for one speech?

  11. Which Monday afternoon session did you attend?

  12. Of the Monday sessions…

  13. Monday session-comments • 90 minutes for a session seems too long - too long for the speakers and too long for the attendees to sit. In this session, the speaker ended 1/2 hour early and then with the 15 minute break tacked on, the time between sessions dragged a bit. Recommend shortening the sessions. • Could be a really great tool for me to use • Over early with large gap till next session. • Ran ahead of time but very good discussion. • She did a super job! • Speaker needs to stand during presentation. • The discussion was very informative. I was surprised at how many schools do not have transitions programs. • The session had potential but was not well rounded or filled out. Speaker used about half the allotted time and didn't bring a lot of new things to the table. • Very quiet speaker. Speaker really need to stand up and not sit at the desk in the front, hard to keep attentive, just like with students. • Vicki should have stood up to present and she needed to project her voice - hard to hear. Had good audience participation and was interesting subject but presentation could use some work. • Vicki would be better heard if she stood up and spoke up. Her presentation was good and informative. • Vicki's session was a bit disappointing. She sat through it and that made her hard to hear. Audience participation made the session more interesting.

  14. Tuesday morning attendance:

  15. Of the Tuesday morning session…

  16. Tuesday morning-comments • Enjoyed the panel of recent graduates from Hardin High School! • I didn't really expect this to be useful. I went to it because it seemed to have possibilities. I turned out to be very good, and I really appreciated the students' perspective. • I gained a lot from this session. I especially enjoyed the student panel. • Internet down? I was hoping for hands on. • It would help the presenter keep the audience attention by not reading the slides but rather talking about them and adding information to the bullet points. She seemed a little hesitant about knowing the information and related information. Most of the information I knew so was looking for more. • Laura is enthusiastic and does a great job with her students. You can tell she loves her job! • Laura was great, as were the student participants. Very informative and very encouraging to see what progress Hardin High has made toward college enrollment. • loved the panel of students! great job! • Over early with large gap till next session. • quiet speaker, sat at table, ran out of print outs for participants • Same issue with timing. • Student panel was awesome. Would consider having 2-3 answer each question as it got long. It was hard to decide which session to attend. All good! • Tech Problems • The panel of students delivered some very eye-opening insights into struggles our students face when transitioning from high school to college. • the session started late due to technology glitch. It also seemed a bit disorganized. • This is one of the sessions that was a victim of the horrible wireless access in the building.

  17. Tuesday after lunch attendance:

  18. Tuesday after lunch session…

  19. Tuesday after lunch session-comments • A few too many people on this panel as it turned out to be 4 people from Billings and reps from almost every college in the state and 2 from ND, so answers to questions got quite lengthy. • I didn't fell well & had to go to my room for awhile. • I enjoyed this session • Lots of info to squeeze into one hour, but Michael Gottlieb is fantastic, and Nina really knows her stuff. • Same issue with timing. • Sarah is an excellent presenter and had us do a stretch break in the middle which was wonderful. She had us get in a circle and each of us pick a stretch to do! fantastic idea - made the last part of the presentation more enjoyable! • Sarah is energetic and involved totally in her program. Love it! • Sarah is funny and interesting and enthusiastic and personable and......no this is not her writing. :) • She was well prepared and I learned something new. • Speaker got behind. What was highlighted in the pamphlet wasn't exactly what was discussed. • Speaker never got to the content in brochure - very boring. • the presentation never covered the conclusions or recommendations.....the presenter ran out of time; too much time was spent on introductions, lit review, etc. • The speaker ran out of time to share the key findings. • The special interest groups monopolized the question/answer session. • Too much detail when the big picture would suffice. Session was too long.

  20. Tuesday late session attendance:

  21. Tuesday late sessions…

  22. Tuesday late sessions-comments • By 3:30 on Tues, I was out of energy. Maybe one of the panels could have used the lunch time in place of one of the keynotes who, while interesting, did not offer a lot of specific help. • Great job learned a lot. • I did not attend any of these sessions. • I have been to NT4CM but it was a great session and review and the Q&A section was very helpful. • Session started a bit late, but the information was good. I think a lot of people didn't know how to find this particular meeting room. • So glad to know Terry Beaubois, and glad to know that he is working on bringing technology education in rural Montana. • They ran a little over time..... • This one was somewhat dry. Technical difficulties. I wanted to respond "somewhat" rather than "agree". • Very good overview of these scholarships

  23. Future ideal times:

  24. Future Participation • 96.6 % of participants plan to attend future MCAN conferences. • 94.8% of participants plan to tell others about future MCAN conferences and urge them to attend.

  25. Overall Conference Comments • Depending on funding from the Governor's Office this year, we would love to continue participating in M-CAN programs and activities. • Great conference !! • Great Conference!! Hope to be invited again. • Great first conference! I look forward to future conferences. • Great plenary speakers. Cut the length sessions from 90 minutes to 60 or 75 and tighten up the day. Thanks for putting on the conference. I look forward to more to come. • I thought the teacher from Bozeman was the highlight of the Conference. I was impressed with what he did in the classroom with his students.

  26. Nice work!! • Overall, it was a great conference. The accommodations were good, the lunches were delicious, and the speakers were very good. • Perhaps a goal for a keynote next year might be the new commissioner or the superintendent • Please emphasize & advertise this conference is 16 CEU OPI approved credits!! This will bring in tons more educators as this is fantastic opportunity to earn these locally and in a short time period. Especially for our career & tech ed folks! Wonderful sessions & presenters. Excellent networking opportunity. I WILL attend next year & tell others to join. GREAT JOB!! • It is very hard to read the questions in this survey with the hot pink background and black type. It would have been better to use either a different color type or different color background. I think the MCAN conference committee did a good job putting the conference program together. • It was a great conference.

  27. Nice conference. As you go along more vendors will join and make it more fun. • Nice job - I enjoyed the conference. • superb breakout sessions, thanks for all the focus on technology in the classroom, technology to help with rural education, and for focusing on the future of education as it pertains to increasing the number of MT college grads. • Thank you for putting on a great conference! • Thanks! hopefully the conference will rotate to a different location each year to give more people opportunity to travel to it. September was a good time for me but might not be for school folks. • The presenter gifts were very thoughtful! Way to go for the inauguration!! • The sessions seemed a bit too long and many ended early. Overall it was a meaningful conference. The keynotes were quite moving and it was great to be a part of the first MCAN conference. • Very well done for the first conference. I enjoyed many of the workshop sessions. Thank you for all the work that went into planning this conference. • What a great, wonderful, professional group!

  28. Thank you for attending
