  2. Campaign Theme • The campaign allows students to “clue into” the importance of school breakfast and will demonstrate how eating school breakfast sets you up for a busy day at school. • Fun detective theme with a number of nutrition based puzzles for kids to solve

Design a School Breakfast Detective Book Cover Contest • Design contest for students • Students design their own school breakfast detective in the form of a book cover. • Students also title the book with a healthy eating spin • E.g. The Case of the Missing Breakfast • 3 national winners receive a prize pack

Design a School Breakfast Detective Book Cover Contest How it works: • Students (Grades 1-12) submit a sketch or drawing of their own school breakfast detective in the form of a book cover. • Sketches must be submitted on the official student contest form. • They need to complete the contest entry form and title their school breakfast detective story using a healthy eating spin. Design a School Breakfast Detective Book Cover Contest 2 levels of judging 1) Local judging (school level) • Consider judging local contest by grade level and perhaps giving small prizes. • A maximum of 3 winners per school can be sent to SNA headquarters for national judging. • SNA will not accept submission directly from students. Design a School Breakfast Detective Book Cover Contest 2 levels of judging 2) National judging (SNA headquarters) • Contest entries will be accepted at SNA headquarters between January 1 – March 31, 2011. • 3 national winning entries will be chosen. • Winning entries will be displayed at www.schoolnutrition.org/nsbw and in School Nutrition. Ideas for Our Schools • Hold a nutrition based treasure hunt in your cafeteria or classrooms. • Enter the “School Breakfast Detectives” Book Cover Contest • Decorate the cafeteria with “School Breakfast Detectives” themed materials available from the SNA Emporium. • Hold a “Dress Like your Favorite Detective” Day. • Invite parents and other special guests.

Ideas for Our Schools • Offer prizes to the classroom with the highest participation during NSBW. • Use SNA’s suggested breakfast menus to showcase healthy, nutritious school breakfasts. • Hold assemblies about the importance of eating a balanced school breakfast • Ask students to write essays about their favorite detective and how they can be a positive role model. • Show detective shows or cartoons during breakfast.

  14. Questions to Think About • Create an “School Breakfast Detectives” celebration day and invite the media to attend. What would our celebration day include? • How can we use this campaign to drive awareness of the message of healthy school meals and correct misperceptions about school meals? • How can we involve students, parents, teachers and administrators?
