  3. Short-term, quarterly, one year • Info sessions twice a week • Credits and classes do transfer with pre-planning • Overseas internships Advising students interested in studying abroad

  4. Foreign students who entered the United States with an F-1 (student) or J-1 (exchange) visa • Issued an I-20 or DS-2019 to remain in the U.S. for the appropriate duration of their studies/program • Have the “F-1 or J-1 Visa” indicator in their Holds box Who is an international student?

Pre-arrival preparation • Visa process • Assistance with housing (on- and off-campus) • Online orientation via Canvas • International transfer credits (Stephanie Hubbard) • Arrival/pick-up/move-in/onboarding • International student orientation • UNIV 101 for matriculated international students • Events and activities Services provided by ISSS

  6. Liaison for government sponsored students (SACM, KCO, IREX, World Learning) • Employment paperwork • International student partial tuition waiver (scholarship) • Advise cultural clubs (Int’l Club, Saudi Student Association) • On-going support for cultural, personal, and/or immigration issues Services provided by ISSS

  7. SAT/ACT is not required if they graduated from an int’l high school • English proficiency is required for university admission through TOEFL, IELTS, graduation from CWU’s UESL program, or transferring ENG 101 and 102 with a B or better from a CC • Foreign language requirement is waived unless from an English speaking country • Pre-major/exploratory advising provided by Int’l Student Advisor • DTA transfers and those ready for their major are referred to Professional Advisors’ • All students attending at the Centers • ISA continues as a “Resource Advisor” for cultural, personal, and immigration advising • Degree students must fulfill all requirements In terms of academic advising…

  8. Students must enroll in and maintain 12+ credits each quarter EXCEPT summer • The credits of one online class can be used toward the 12 • Internship credits are considered “in-person” credits • Classes taken at other schools may be counted • Exceptions are: • Student’s first term • Medical excuse from doctor • Student final term • Improper course placement • Dept of Homeland would rather they fail than drop below 12 credits Laws regarding full-time study

  9. Be a friendship family • Attend events (AUAP Night, International Café, International Education Week, etc.) • Advise a club • Take info with you when you go abroad • Encourage your faculty to lead a faculty led program • Say “hello” when you see international students How to get involved!
