Elizabethan Women • Were tortured at home – There were no schools for girls • Were no t allowed to enter university (except female royal) • Could not become doctors or lawyers • Did not have the vote and were not allowed to enter politics • No Elizabethan woman in the army or navy • Not allowed to act in the theatres (but women at court were allowed to perform in masques)

Baiting The Bear • Small place built like a theatre made for the baiting of bears • Bears are chained while dogs attack for entertainment • When a dog is wounded or tired they send out fresh dogs • After the dogs, five or six men with whips get a try at the bear • When the men get too close, the bear attacks with his arms • The English constantly smoke their Nicotian weed (Tobaca) with their clay pipes

  4. Home Style • Large framed • Amazing art detail • Huge paintings • Large wood chairs, tables, and benches • High chimneys • Master room/rooms include: Fireplace, Large bed frame, beautiful art • Real glass windows

Beliefs • Took religion much more seriously than today • England broke off from the Roman Catholic Church • They felt they needed to purify the church of Catholicism • Their chain of command had the Queen at the top, though women were seen as beneath men her rank as a monarch changed that • People were extremely superstitious believing that the fey, witches and goblins were the source of misfortune • Many people that were thought to be witches were hung
