  2. Phaethon • The son of a woman named Clymene and the titan Helios • Sisters, the Heliads • Blonde hair • Friends with Epaphus, the son of Zeus

  3. Meeting Apollo • Apollo’s eagle sees Phaethon unconscious • She and 3 of her companions go get him • They lay him down in front of the throne • Apollo thinks he’s proud/rash/accepting • Phaethon asks Apollo to let him drive the chariot alone • Apollo thinks its impossible but decides to let him try

  4. The Ride • Apollo tells him the rules, go too high the earth freezes, go too low the earth burns • Phaethon wants to show Epaphus so he goes lower and sees the village is on fire, the horses get out of control • Zeus sees Phaethon, sees its not Helios, furiously he throws a lightning bolt at him killing him immediately • Phaethon’s sisters, the Heliads grieved for him so Apollo changed them to poplar trees
