  2. Unit Concepts • Areas of interaction = Human Ingenuity • What is matter? • Human ingenuity is a way to measure matter. • Humans have invented a way to measure matter, can you name them?

  3. What are they? • The three states of matter- Solid, Liquid, and Gas. • Solids, Liquids, and Gases have DIFFERENTPROPERTIES. • A property of a substance is just HOW IT BEHAVES

  4. Solids • Solids have a firm volume. • They are held closely in fixed positions • Solids have a firm shape • Solids are not easily squashed • Solids don’t flow .

  5. Liquids • Liquids match the shape of a container • Liquids flow easily • Liquids are not easily squashed • Liquid particles are close together but they can move.

  6. Gases • Gases have no firm volume because they fill the space they’re in • We can not live without gases • Gases become the same shape as the container • Gases are easily squashed • Gases flow easily
