  1. Agenda 1. My Job 2. Your Job 3. Why routines? 4. Classroom Routines 5. Classroom Rules 6. Consequences 7. Grading

  2. My job is to… • provide the information • answer all the relevant questions I can • and help you to find answers I don’t know • design assignments to help you learn • provide timely feedback on assignments • promote an atmosphere of respect • make the class as interesting as possible

  3. Your job is to… • show respect • be prepared for class • complete your assignments • learn all that you can why? NOBODY can take away what YOU know!

  4. Why do we need routines? • streamlines everyday activities • tells us what to do and when • keeps class organized • focuses our attention • helps us succeed • speeds up class… creating “play” time

  5. Entering the Classroom • Make sure you are prepared • pencil, paper, notebook or binder • assignments that are due • Enter the room quietly. • Go to your assigned seat. • Get out your materials needed for class. • Stash everything else under your desk.

  6. As the Bell Rings • Begin working on the Warm Up • posted on the board every morning • Keep all Warm Ups in your science journal • Follow directions CAREFULLY • ALWAYS date your work • ALWAYS answer questions in complete sentences • When you finish, wait quietly for further directions

  7. During Lecture • Give the teacher your full attention • No talking, not even a whisper • No pencil sharpening • If you have questions… • Raise your hand AND wait to be called on • Questions should be related to the subject • Take notes • Copy down key words and main ideas • DO NOT write down everything

  8. During Activity/Lab Instructions • Only the teacher should be talking • Pay close attention, taking notes as needed • Ask about any unclear instructions • Raise your hand and wait to be called on • If you are still uncertain • Be as SPECIFIC as possible about what you do not understand. • Never start an activity if you are not sure what to do

  9. During Work Time • Read ALL the instructions FIRST • If you have a question ask a student nearby • If you still do not understand, raise your hand • If you are ASKED, be polite and helpful • Talking should be no more than a whisper • Others are trying to work too • Use your time wisely • Do your best and finish on time

  10. Dismissal • Clean up your area • All garbage should be in the trash can • Any supplies used should be returned • All supply areas should be neat and orderly • Turn in any assignments due that day. • Gather all your belongings and remain in your seat until you are dismissed. • Remember, the bell doesn’t dismiss you… I do

  11. When the Lights Go Out • Stop whatever you are doing • Face forward, no talking or whispering • All your attention should be on the teacher

  12. If You Finish Early • Double check your work carefully • Read over the instructions again to see if you missed anything • If the assignment is supposed to be turned in do so. • Read quietly or work on something for another class. DO NOT DISTURB OTHER STUDENTS!!!

  13. If You Are Tardy • Wait quietly at the teacher’s desk. • When asked, explain yourself or provide a pass. • Go to your seat when you are given permission. • If you have missed any assignments • You will NOT be excused from them • Get them from a classmate

  14. If You Are Absent • Check the top drawer of the orange filing cabinet • Assignments will be in a folder with your name • Get the notes missed from a classmate • If you missed a test, talk to Mr. Williams at the END of class • School policy will apply to missed work • Work from unexcused absences CANNOT be made up

  15. Classroom Rules • Respect • yourself • each other • any visitors • Be Prepared • Pay Attention • Live & Learn School Rules from the Student Handbook will be enforced No food, follow the dress code, etc… • the teacher • the equipment • the school building

  18. What’s my point… • If you do what is asked of you and follow the rules as a class… • we learn about the earth, finish assignments in class and have fun • If you don’t… • we waste a lot of time, get lots of homework, and miss out on the best activities YOUR education and YOUR choice
