  2. Objective: The student will comprehend ways to enhance and maintain personal health, by taking notes about the Health Triangle. In your own words define what you think the meaning of health is.

  3. Health • Health is the combination of physical, mental, emotional, and social well being. • The word health comes from an Old English word meaning “to make sound, whole, or well.” (same root as heal) • Being healthy means having a balanced health triangle.

  4. The Health Triangle • The three sides of your health are connected, like the sides of a triangle. Social Health Physical Health Mental & Emotional Health

  5. Physical Health-keeping your body strong and healthy. • This involves keeping your body fit, practicing good hygiene, avoiding drugs, & eating a well balanced diet.

  6. Physical Health Depends on: • Balanced Diet • Daily Exercise • Avoiding Diseases & Drugs NO

  7. Social Health • Social health involves getting along with parents, siblings, friends, teachers…, making and keeping friends, giving and receiving support when needed and being a good citizen.

  8. Answer these questions in your journal… • Why is it sometimes hard to get along with people? • What makes it hard to talk to our parents? • What do you like in a friend? • What does it mean to Give/receive “support?”

  9. Mental Health • Mental health is the state of liking and accepting yourself. • Short? Tall? Skinny? Chubby? • Dark skin? Light skin? • How do you feel about yourself? Why? • Love yourself! • You are very special!

  10. Emotional Health • The ability to show emotions in a healthy & accepted manner. This involves expressing emotions, facing problems, dealing with pressure & stress, and staying positive.

  11. Create your own Health Triangle Now it is time to fill out your own health triangle! Physical Health- How do you take care of yourself? Teeth, fitness, sleep, hygiene? Social Health- How do you interact socially? Friends? Family? Mental- How do you feel about yourself? How do you handle your emotions? What do you do to relax?
