  1. Monday, February 12, 2007 • Agenda: • Study labs 47/48 and vocabulary, test 3/15 • You need your log book and a pencil out on your desk!! • To do: • What do plants need to grow? • What is the role of sunlight in photosynthesis?

  2. Molecular Models • Red or Orange ball – Oxygen atom • Black ball – Carbon atom • White ball – Hydrogen atom • Springs – molecular bonds (energy) • Groups 1, 2, 5, and 6 need to make 6 molecules of CO2. You must use all of the atoms and all of the bonds. • Groups 3, 4, 7, and 8 need to make 6 molecules of H20. You must use all of the atoms and all of the bonds.

  3. Molecular Models cont. • You will now pair with the group behind you (1-3, 2-4, 5-7, 6-8). With your 6 molecules of CO2 and 6 molecules ofH20 you need to make the products of photosynthesis: • 1 molecule of glucose (C6H12O6) • 6 molecules of Oxygen (O2).

  4. Post-Assessment • How does the amount of matter present before photosynthesis compare with the amount of matter present after photosynthesis? Use evidence from the lab. • What happened to the water and carbon dioxide that started the process? • What is the role of sunlight in photosynthesis? • What do plants need to grow?
