  3. Tissue tests • Find people who’ve never seen your game. Why? • They have fresh eyes. • They tell you what should be obvious.

  5. How to conduct playtests • Say as little as possible before they play. • Let the game speak for itself. • Show them the controls and that’s it.

  6. How to conduct playtests • Let Players Be: • Free to fail… AND • Free to find fun.

  7. What’s the Think aloud protocol?

  8. What’s the Think aloud protocol? • Encourage the player to verbalize all their internal thoughts. • It’s supposed to be a stream-of-consciousness ramble.

  12. During the Playtest ask these questions in your head: • What are the bugs? • Do players understand how to play? • Where do players get stuck? • When do players have the most fun? • What could be added/removed to add fun?

  13. IMMEDIATELY After playtesting: • Give a short Google Doc survey. • Then give an in-person interview.

  14. Okay interview questions: • Will you be brutallyhonest, please? • 3 favorite things in the prototype? • 2changes we should make? • 1 least favorite thing in the prototype? • What game(s) does it remind you of?

Better interview questions: • Overall, what were your thoughts of the game? • What were your thoughts about the game play? • Were you able to learn how to play quickly? • What is the objective of the game? • How would you describe this game to someone who has never played it before? • Is there anything you didn‘t like about the game • Was anything confusing? Take me through it.
