  2. Background • The legislative branch is in charge of suggesting and voting on bills. If a bill is passed by the legislature and signed by the governor, it becomes a law. • S.B. = Senate Bill; These are bills that are first presented to the Senate. • H.B. = House Bill; These are bills that are first presented to the House of Representatives

  6. H.B. 201 – Utah State Winter SportsSponsor: Steven Eliason • The Basics • This bill would make snowboarding and skiing the official winter sports of Utah. • Current Status: • Passed in the House of Representatives and Senate

  7. S.B. 41 – Regulation of Tanning FacilitiesSponsor - Patricia W. Jones • The Basics: • People under the age of 18 cannot use tanning businesses without a doctor’s note • Current Status: • Has not been voted on yet.

  8. H.B. 21 – Drivers License Emergency Contact DatabaseSponsor: Marie H. Poulson • The Basics: • The state would create a database (virtual file box) that stores contact information for drivers. A driver’s information is only placed there if he/she shares it. • Current Status: • Passed in the House of Representatives and Senate

  9. S.B. 128 - WIRELESS TELEPHONE USE RESTRICTION FOR MINORS IN VEHICLESSponsor: Ross I. Romero • The Basics: • Drivers under the age of 18 cannot use their phones to talk to another person. • Most likely wouldn’t be in trouble if talking to parents or reporting an emergency • Current Status: • Passed in the Senate, waiting for a vote in the House of Representatives.

  10. H.B. 108 – Internet GamblingSponsor: Stephen E. Sandstrom • The Basics: • Clarifies that internet gambling is illegal in Utah. • Current Status: • Has not been voted on.

  11. H.B. 62 – Provisions Regarding School SuppliesSponsor: Kraig Powell • The Basics: • Elementary school teachers can send home a list of supplies for class, but have to emphasize that students do not HAVE to supply their own. • Current Status: • Passed in House; Amended in the Senate and will be voted on.
