Hazrat Abu UbaidahIbn Al-Jarrah(RzA) • Born in Makkah in 583 CE • Belonged to the Quraysh clan of Banu al-HarithibnFihr • was considered to be one of the nobles of Qurayshand was famous for his modesty and bravery • Immediately Embraced Islam in the year 611 • Just a day after Abu Bakr(RzA) • Being the only person in His clan to have accepted Islam • He lived through the harsh experience that the • Muslims went through in Makkah • In 615, migrated to Abyssinia along with a delegation of 83 men and 20 women • In 622 CE, when Muhammad(pbuh) migrated to Medina, Abu Ubaidah also migrated

Hazrat Abu UbaidahIbn Al-Jarrah(RzA) • In 624, He participated in the first battle between the Muslims and the Quraysh of Makkah • After 9 Years He Saw His Father • But Fighting Against Him And Trying to Kill Him • Abu Ubaidah avoided fighting with His Father • But His father was trying to Kill Him again and again • So at the End Abu Ubaidah killed His Father • To exemplify this extreme strength of Character • Allah(swt) revealed a Verse in Quran • Saying that • Those who believe in Allah(swt) and the last day • Do not care for those who are against • Allah(swt) and the Messenger • Even if they may be • Father or Son or Brother or relatives

Hazrat Abu UbaidahIbn Al-Jarrah(RzA) Verse of Chapter 58 Exemplifying His Character لَا تَجِدُ قَوْمًا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ يُوَادُّونَ مَنْ حَادَّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَوْ كَانُوا آبَاءهُمْ أَوْ أَبْنَاءهُمْ أَوْ إِخْوَانَهُمْ أَوْ عَشِيرَتَهُمْ أُوْلَئِكَ كَتَبَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْإِيمَانَ وَأَيَّدَهُم بِرُوحٍ مِّنْهُ وَيُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ أُوْلَئِكَ حِزْبُ اللَّهِ أَلَا إِنَّ حِزْبَ اللَّهِ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ 58:22 You will not find any people who believe in Allah(swt)and the Last Day, loving those who resist Allah(swt) and HIS Messenger, even though they were their fathers or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred. For such HE has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with a spirit from Himself. and HE will admit them to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, to dwell therein (for ever). Allah(swt) will be well pleased with them, and they with HIM. They are the Party of Allah(swt). Truly it is the Party of Allah(swt) that will achieve Felicity.[Al-Quran Chapter 58 Verse 22 ]

Hazrat Abu UbaidahIbn Al-Jarrah(RzA) • In the year 625, • he participated in the Battle of Uhud • He who Killed • His Father in the First Battle • received wounds on His own Body to Save • Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) in the second Battle • He participated in all battles and • was leading one of the four groups of armies • that conquered Makkah in 630 • He lead a division of Muslim Army • During many battles • Abu Ubaidah and Khalid bin Waleed • were two storms that lead Muslim Armies to • defeat Eastern Roman army, Damascus and Jerusalem • and Syria and Armenia and Anatolia

Hazrat Abu UbaidahIbn Al-Jarrah(RzA) • Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) • Sent Him to Bahrain as tax collector • Christians from Najran • showed interest to learn about Islam and • Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) sent Abu Ubaidah to them • Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) said • Every umat has an Ameen (trustworthy) and • Ameen of my Umat is Abu UbaidahIbn Al-Jarrah(RzA) • In the year 629 Muhammad(pbuh) • sent an Army under Command of Abu Ubaidah(RzA) • and Umar(RzA) and Abu Bakar(RzA) was in it • Caliph Umar(RzA) appointed Him • as Supreme Commander of Muslim Armies • Caliph Umar(RzA) appointed Him • Governor of Syria

Hazrat Abu UbaidahIbn Al-Jarrah(RzA) • Caliph Umar(RzA) visited his house and saw that He had no possessions at home except one bed, a sword and a shield. • Umar said to him, "O' Abu Ubaidah, • you could have some things of comfort for yourself • but He replied "O' Umar that's enough for me • Caliph Umar(RzA) then Said • the world have changed all of us to some extent • but not a least to you “O’, Abu Ubaidah • In 639 a great plague struck Syria • Umar(RzA) loved Abu Ubaidah so much that He wrote • I am in urgent need of you. If my letter reaches you at night then leave before dawn. • and if it reaches you during the day, then leave before evening and hasten to me. • but • Abu Ubaidah(RzA) appologized and refused to leave Muslim Army in that time

  8. Hazrat Abu UbaidahIbn Al-Jarrah(RzA) • Abu Ubaidah became afflicted with the plague. As death hung over him, He spoke to his army • Let me give you some advice, which will cause you to be on the path of goodness always— Establish Prayer. Fast the month of Ramadan. Give Sadaqah. Perform the Hajj and Umrah. Remain united and support one another. Be sincere to your commanders and do not conceal anything from them. Don't let the world destroy you for even if man were to live a thousand years he would still end up with this state that you see me in. Peace be upon you and the mercy of God. • He then appointed Muadh ibnJabal as his successor and ordered him to lead people in prayers; after the prayers Muadh went to him and, at that moment, his soul departed. • He died in 639 C.E. and was buried at Jabiya • Surely His Soul Rests In Peace In HeavensMay Allah(swt) Shower His Blessings On HIM and on US
