  3. “BIOGAS TO POWER”……….WHY? • Power is in short supply. 78,000MW planned in 11th Plan. • 1.25 lac villages and 56 % of household are non electrified- Power is in big deficit. • Rural, decentralized and renewable power -A Priority. • Enactment of Electricity Act 2003 and Renewable policy 2005 in place. • Process industries need high quality and uninterrupted power. • Any expansion /New downstream projects will require additional, quality power. • Power generation/Cogeneration is becoming an important revenue stream.

  4. “BIOGAS TO POWER”……….WHY? • Successful reference plants available –reduced risk. • Elemental Sulphur as a high value biproduct from Bioskrubber process , an added advantage. • CDM benefits – Generate more power, get more benefit • Therefore generating additional power from biogas now makes good business sense.

Biogas application from “ Heat to Power ” A High Value Shift • Biogas already available with many distilleries. • Current utilization of biogas - mostly as heat value. • Biogas fired Gas Engines - for high value shift. • 1 m3 of gas fired in engine can give 2 units of power . • High efficiency - Electrical 40.8%+17.5%+22.9% =81.2% • System configuration -Biogas+Bioskrubber+Gas engines • H2S in the biogas must be removed for gas engine application. • Typical H2S in biogas from distilleries is 3% to 5%.Should be brought down to 250 ppm.

  9. BioskrubberTM is a biological caustic scrubber to remove H2S from biogas, in which the spent caustic solution is continuously regenerated in the bioreactor. BIOSKRUBBERTM PROCESS Equation No 1 H2Sgas + OH- HS-liquid + H2O Equation No 2 HS- + 1/2O2 + OH- So

ADVANTAGES BIOSKRUBBERTM PROCESS • Clean bio-technology for H2S cleaning. • Lowoperating cost of biogas - upto 92% caustic recycled. • Successful commercially operating plants for last 8 years. • Projects using BIOSKRUBBERTM PROCESSworth 30 MW of power successfully commissioned. • Very high H2S removal efficiency - over 99%. • H2S reduction to less than 250 ppm guaranteed. • No expensive catalyst and chemical required. • Operation at ambient temperature, pressure and PH between 8 and 8.5 . • Elemental SULFUR as bi-product with 90% purity.
