  1. Biblical Tithing Using What is Written to Dispel the Myths and Misconceptions About Tithing

  2. Where This Teaching is Going Avraham’s Example (Precedent for Giving) Ya’acov’s Decision to Tithe (Motivation for Giving) Going Up – Why? (Time for Giving) Torah Instructions on Tithing (Manner of Giving) Who Collects the Tithes? How Many Tithes? Attitude in Giving (The Heart of Giving)

  3. The Tithe Given By Avraham Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of El Elyon (Elohim Most High), and he blessed Avram, saying, "Blessed be Avram by Elohim Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.  And blessed be Elohim Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Avram gave him a tenth of everything. (Bereshith14:18-20)

  4. Who is Melchizedek? Priest of El Elyon So great Avram paid him the tenth The Lesser is Blessed by the Greater And Levi paid him the tenth while in Avram’s loins Not a person, but an order Priesthood of Aharon has rules, regulations, authority Priesthood of Melkizedek?

  5. Who is Melchizedek? Yehovahhas sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.“ (Psalm 110:4) The one sitting at the right hand of the Father is an eternal priest in the order of Melchizedek

  6. Jacob Paid a Tithe Bereshith 28:10ff Then Ya'acov made a vow, saying, "If Elohim will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father's house, then Yehovahwill be my Elohim and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be Elohim's house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.“ (Bereshith 28:20-22)

  7. Ya’acov Paid the Tithe Why? To Whom? A Pattern established by Ya’acov Ya’acov made a vow! All who are Yisrael must keep the vow!

  8. Who Receives the Tithe? Before Levi, Melchizedek receives the tithe Levi, while the sanctuary service was in play Yeshua is the forever priest in the order of Melchizedek. He now receives the tithe (since Levi is not now in play)

  9. The Levites Receive Tithe "Speak to the Lewites and say to them: 'When you receive from the sons of Yisrael the tithe I give you as your inheritance…. Bamidbar 18:26

  10. Levi Receives the Tithe as Their Inheritance Devarim [Deuteronomy] 18 The priests, who are Levites-- indeed the whole tribe of Levi-- are to have no allotment or inheritance with Yisrael. They shall live on the offerings made to Yehovahby fire, for that is their inheritance. 2They shall have no inheritance among their brothers; Yehovahis their inheritance, as he promised them. 3This is the share due the priests from the people who sacrifice a bull or a sheep: the shoulder, the jowls and

  11. Levi Receives the Tithe sacrifice a bull or a sheep: the shoulder, the jowls and the inner parts. 4 You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine and oil, and the first wool from the shearing of your sheep, 5for Yehovahyour Elohim has chosen them and their descendants out of all your tribes to stand and minister in Yehovah'sname always.

  12. Why Do We “Go Up”?

  13. Three times a year you are to celebrate a festival to me. Guard the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of the Aviv, for in that month you came out of Mitzrayim. No one is to appear before me empty-handed.  And the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your field. And the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in your crops from the field.  Three times a year all the men are to appear before Adonai Yehovah. (Shemot 23:15-17)

  14. Why Do We “Go Up”? But you are to seek the place Yehovahyour Elohim will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go; there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, what you have vowed to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks. There, in the presence of Yehovahyour Elohim, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because Yehovahyour Elohim has blessed you. Devarim 12:5-7

  15. Three times a year all your men must appear before Yehovah your Elohim at the place he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before Yehovah empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way Yehovah your Elohim has blessed you. (Devarim 16:16-17 )Three times a year all the men are to appear before Adonai Yehovah. (Shemot [Exodus] 23:17)Three times a year all your men are to appear before Adonai Yehovah, the Elohim of Yisrael. (Shemot [Exodus] 34:23)

  16. Where Do We Present Our Tithe to Yah? You must not eat in your own towns the tithe of your grain and new wine and oil, or the firstborn of your herds and flocks, or whatever you have vowed to give, or your freewill offerings or special gifts.  Instead, you are to eat them in the presence of Yehovahyour Elohim at the place Yehovahyour Elohim will choose-- you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the Levites from your towns-- and you are to rejoice before Yehovahyour Elohim in everything you put your hand to. Devarim12:17-18

  17. What Do We Tithe?

  18. "'A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to Yehovah; it is holy to Yehovah.  If a man redeems any of his tithe, he must add a fifth of the value to it.  The entire tithe of the herd and flock-- every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd's rod-- will be holy to Yehovah.  He must not pick out the good from the bad or make any substitution. If he does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute become holy and cannot be redeemed.'“ Vayiqra 27:30-33

  19. Do the Lewites Get All My Tithe?

  20. Eating Your Tithe You must not eat in your own towns the tithe of your grain and new wine and oil, or the firstborn of your herds and flocks, or whatever you have vowed to give, or your freewill offerings or special gifts.

  21. Devarim 14:22-29 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of Yehovahyour Elohim at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere Yehovahyour Elohim always. But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by Yehovahyour Elohim and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where Yehovahwill choose to put his Name is so far away), then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place Yehovahyour Elohim will choose.

  22. Booths Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of Yehovahyour Elohim and rejoice. And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.

  23. The Levites Receive Tithe "Speak to the Lewites and say to them: 'When you receive from the sons of Yisrael the tithe I give you as your inheritance…. Bamidbar 18:26

  24. The Third Year Tithe At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year's produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that Yehovahyour Elohim may bless you in all the work of your hands. Devarim 14:27-29

  25. The Third Year Tithe When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, you shall give it to the Levite, the sojourner (ger), the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.  Then say to Yehovahyour Elohim: "I have removed from my house the sacred portion and have given it to the Levite, the alien, the fatherless and the widow, according to all you commanded.

  26. The Third Year Tithe I have not turned aside from your commands nor have I forgotten any of them.  I have not eaten any of the sacred portion while I was in mourning, nor have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor have I offered any of it to the dead. I have obeyed Yehovahmy Elohim; I have done everything you commanded me.  Look down from heaven, your holy dwelling place, and bless your people Yisrael and the land you have given us as you promised on oath to our forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.“ Devarim 26:12-15

  27. The Levites Tithe Too Speak to the Lewites and say to them: 'When you receive from the sons of Yisrael the tithe I give you as your inheritance, you must present a tenth of that tithe as Yehovah'soffering. Bamidbar 18:26 What happens to the Lewites tithe?

  28. Widows and Orphans Receive the Tithe of Lewi Who Qualifies? Some Widows return to father’s house Young widows can remarry or can earn a living Widows taken care of by their children Older widows qualify (1 Tim 5:1-16)

  29. How Many Tithes Are There? Some say two or three different tithes – a tithe eaten, a tithe given to Lewites, a tithe of the third year I am convinced “one” The Tithe was brought and eaten by the people, and given to the Lewites, who also distributed to the widow and orphan and sojourner. In the third year it was stored up in the local storehouses

  30. Revival Under HezekYah He ordered the people living in Yerushalayim to give the portion due the priests and Levites so they could devote themselves to the Law of Yehovah.  As soon as the order went out, the sons of Yisrael generously gave the firstfruits of their grain, new wine, oil and honey and all that the fields produced. They brought a great amount, a tithe of everything.

  31. Revival Under HezekYah The men of Yisrael and Yehudah who lived in the towns of Yehudah also brought a tithe of their herds and flocks and a tithe of the holy things dedicated to Yehovahtheir Elohim, and they piled them in heaps.  They began doing this in the third month and finished in the seventh month.  When Hezekiah and his officials came and saw the heaps, they praised Yehovahand blessed his people Yisrael. 2 Chronicles 31:4-8

  32. Temple Restoration Under Nehemiah "We also assume responsibility for bringing to the house of Yehovaheach year the firstfruits of our crops and of every fruit tree.  "As it is also written in the Law, we will bring the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, of our herds and of our flocks to the house of our Elohim, to the priests ministering there.  "Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our Elohim, to the priests, the first of our ground meal, of our [grain] offerings, of the fruit of all our trees and of our new wine and oil. And we will bring a tithe of our crops to the Levites,

  33. Temple Restoration for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work.  A priest descended from Aharon is to accompany the Levites when they receive the tithes, and the Levites are to bring a tenth of the tithes up to the house of our Elohim, to the storerooms of the treasury.   The people of Yisrael, including the Levites, are to bring their contributions of grain, new wine and oil to the storerooms where the articles for the sanctuary are kept and where the ministering priests, the gatekeepers and the singers stay. "We will not neglect the house of our Elohim.“ Nehemiah 10:35-39

  34. Robbing Yehovah "Will a man rob Elohim? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings.  You are under a curse-- the whole nation of you-- because you are robbing me.  Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says YehovahAlmighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.  I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says YehovahAlmighty.  "Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says YehovahAlmighty. Malachi 3:8-12

  35. Attitude in Giving We give the tithe because of what Yehovah has done for us But just as you excel in everything-- in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us--see that you also excel in this grace of giving. 2 Corinthians 8:7
