  2. MESA Objectives • To increase the number of ethnic minority and female students who wish to pursue careers in mathematics, engineering, and science areas. • To provide activities to motivate ethnic minorities and female students to take advantage of educational opportunities.

  3. MESA Objectives (cont) • To increase graduation rates of targeted students. • To strengthen the self-image of targeted students relating to success in math and science courses. • To provide the opportunity to associate with successful role models.

  4. 6 Key Components of MESA • Student Achievement • Academic Counseling • Student Assistance • Parent Involvement • Community Outreach • Retention

  5. Weekly After School Tutoring • Thursdays – Scott Roskelley • Wednesdays – Mary Lambert • Times are from 3:00 to 4:00 in the respective teachers rooms.

Past MESA Activities • Kennekott Copper Mine Field Trip • ATK Shuttle Rocket Booster Test • Jordan Tech Center Field Trip • Salt Lake Community College Trip • Weber State University Field Trips • Mouse Trap Car Activity • Moog Aircraft Group Field Trip • GPS Geo-caching Note: Some of these activities may also occur this year.

  8. Field Trip Guidelines • Must turn in permission form on time. • No D’s or F’s. • Must have attended a MESA meeting. • No citizenship problems in any class.
