  1. MFL Activities Part II

  2. Vindictive Quickest person to write word on mini whiteboard gets to vote people out. If people who are voted out are the quickest they are allowed back in the game and can vote people out.

  3. Say Something Different Students are given short sentences and have to saysomethingdifferent. L’educationest un droit. L’educationest important. La famille est important.

  4. Fodey Using the link below students create their own authentic looking newspaper articles.

  5. Find the missing word Read out a list of words. E.G. days of the week, months, colours. Then reread the list omitting one word. Students have to say the missing word.

  6. Moving dictation Teacher reads out a text, the students write a sentence and then pass their exercise book to another student who writes the next sentence.

  7. Adjective Students find an adjective for first letter of their name.

  8. Kings and Queens At the end of the lesson, get two pupils up the front, you say the English, the first kid to say the word in the target language wins and the other sits down, to be replaced by another pupil. The person left standing when the bell goes is officially king or queen of the class.

  9. Beat the Teacher Write down numbers on the board. Point at a number and say what it is. Pupils repeat. If you say the word incorrectly they have to stay quiet. If they are quiet they gain a point.

  10. Snap Students are given a pack of cards with images/words in English. Students play ‘Snap’ and the first person to say the word in the target language gets to keep the card. The student with the most cards wins.

  11. Mini Whiteboards Ask students questions which they answer on their mini whiteboards. If someone’s answer isn’t quite right, hold up their board and ask how it could be improved.

  12. Separate Words Writeasentenceinthetargetlanguagewhichstudentshavetoseparate.

  13. Choral Repetition When doing choral repetition ask certain people to repeat e.g. girls, boys, people with blue eyes, people who have a pet.

  14. Elevens Go around the room saying 1, 2 or 3 numbers in the target language. Number 11 is out.

  15. Descriptions In pairs, students have to describe an image using as many words as they can.

  16. Verb Murderer One student goes out of the room, another is the murderer. Students chant verb endings. The murderer has to give a signal for everyone to change the chant, the other student has to guess who the murderer is.

  17. Amateur Dramatics Students walk around the room, teacher says stop and a word from the topic E.G. verb, weather, animal and the students have to act that word out.

  18. Brain Gym Images right left both Students are given a sheet of images with colours next to them. When they hear the word for that image they put up the correct hand/s.

  19. Brain Gym Tenses right - future left - preterite both – present vamos puedo fui voy a ir

  20. Wingdings Code Students are given a text in the target language and have to use the codes to figure out the meaning.

  21. 6 Word Sentence Students have to write a sentence with 6 (or any other number) words.

  22. Mood Cards When doing a speaking activity each student is given a mood card. They have to portray this mood while they are speaking and their partner must guess the word in the TL. nervioso/a

  23. Quiz Quiz Trade Everyone has a piece of paper with a sentence and the translation underneath. Walk around the room reading your sentence to other people. The other person translates. You then do the same with their card. If both people translate each others’ cards correctly you can swap. Count the amount of times you have exchanged papers. Can you get more than 10?

  24. YMCA When introducing new vocab students make an F or an M shape depending on whether they think the word is masculine or feminine.

  25. Vocab Hunt • Students are given an empty vocab grid. Blu-tacthe words in the TL around the room. • Students work in pairs or small groups and with only one person being able to leave their seat at a time they have to fill their table. The one student who leaves the group has to memorise the word and the spelling, come back and share with partner and group members. • The other student(s) look up the Spanish word in the dictionary. Students take it in turns until all words are found and translated.

  26. RHUBARB • Students in groups. • Everyone has a copy of the text to read along. • One person starts reading it… if they make a mistake, or someone thinks they do, they shout ‘Rhubarb and tell you what they think went wrong. • If they are correct the student who shouted out ‘rhubarb’ takes over reading and wins a point for their team. • If they hadn’t made a mistake, the student who was originally reading gets a point for their team and carries on reading.

  27. Infinitives TOinfinitive and beyond…because Buzz wants everyone to know that the infinitive is the verb form which has ‘to’ in it

  28. Medals If students manage to complete all work they are given a medal and are allowed to go around the room helping others.

  29. QR Codes Generate QR codes using the website below. Place these around the room. Students scan the codes on their phones. This could lead them to a text in the TL or answers to an activity they have been doing.

  30. Mind mapping Let students brainstorm ideas. For example they could think of alternate endings for each verb phrase. je vais je joue En vacances… je mange je fais

  31. Recap Read through your notes from the previous lesson.

  32. Find your partner Students are given a question/answer, start/end of sentence, word in English/TL and have to find their partner.

  33. Jumbled Images Give students a text and some images. They put the images in the correct order. Lundi je joue au tennis. Mardi je fais de la natation. Mercredi je fais du shopping.

  34. Bingo Ideal as a starter activity to practise numbers in target language.

  35. Countdown Students think of words in the target language using the letters provided.

  36. Crossword Create a crossword using the link below. Good to get them thinking at the start of the lesson.

  37. Adjective, verb, noun Students are given words and have to decide whether they are an adjective, verb or a noun.

  38. Spot the Mistake Write sentences on the board relating to the current topic which include common errors made my students. Students have to spot the errors and correct them.

  39. Word search Create a word search using the link below. Good to get them thinking at the start of the lesson.

  40. Under the Desk Introduce new vocabulary by sticking words under pupils’ desks before they arrive. They have to race to find the meaning of their word in the dictionary then share with the rest of the class.

  41. Odd One Out Write lists of words on the board in the target language. Students have to decide which is the odd one out from each set and why.

  42. One of two game Students are shown images and have to decide which of the two words it is. amarillo naranja

  43. Taboo Provide the class with images which they have to describe in the target language to one student who has to guess the word. Students are given a list of words they are not allowed to say.

  44. Think, pair, share Think of 1 thing you learnt last lesson. Discuss it with your partner. Join up with another pair and discuss your answers as a group.

  45. Knock Knock Give each pupil the start/punch line of a joke and they have to find their partner.

  46. Spelling Bee Split the class into two teams. Students take it in turns to spell words from the current topic. The team with the most correctly spelt words wins.

  47. Word list Write as many words/phrases as you can remember from the previous lesson.

  48. Musical Chairs Say random words and children sit down when you say one from a selected topic. E.G. verbs, nouns

  49. True Wall False Wall Teacher reads out a statement and if it is correct, pupils turn to the true wall. If it is incorrect, they turn to the false wall and offer a suggestion as to why.

  50. Put text in correct order Cut up a text into sentences and students have to read through it and put it in the correct order.
