  2. Project Objectives • To set up an optimised deposition method of well-aligned and well-distributed carbon nanotubes on large area substrate • To study innovative triode structures based on the use of thin film nanotubes to improve the cost issue as well as the reliability • To develop a new low cost technology allowing to bring in the market displays showing better performances • To demonstrate the feasibility of the CNT based FED for large area (>40") fabricating a 15" triode display demonstrator with the following performances:

  3. CNT deposition for FE cathode fabrication • To set up an optimised deposition method of well-aligned and well-distributed carbon nanotubes on large area substrate • Two main approaches: • Controlled synthesis • Growth of CNT raw material • Arc or laser evaporation • Selective deposition of CNT film • Evaporation of carbon source by Arc • Hydrocarbon cracking by HF-CVD and/or PECVD • Controlled manipulation • Spray • Screen printing of CNT composite paste • Ink jet • Electro-phoretic deposition • Self alignment Transfer to cathode by

  5. Demonstrators To demonstrate the feasibility, for the short term, of medium size CNT based FED and, for the long term, of large area displays for TV applications fabricating both 6.4” and 15" triode display demonstrators

  6. Micro-tips FED “Heritage” 15 inch micro-tips FE flat panel displays
