  4. A. Mario Loiederman Middle School opened in August, 2005 Our school was named for A. Mario Loiederman, an immigrant from Argentina and civil engineer who built a prominent company in Rockville, MD. He was an active patron of the arts. We are proud to represent his legacy.

Academic Rigor • INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS: To develop Higher Order Thinking skills through authentic tasks aligned to measureable mastery objectives. • All students will exhibit a high level of thinking as measured by the proficiency levels aligned to the Common Core State Standards identified in the PARCC. • Math • Science • English • Social Studies

  13. Choice Forms • Choice forms will be mailed to in-consortium families. • Choice forms will also be available on our school’s website. • Choice forms are due November 7, 2014. • See DCCAPS staff this evening in the counseling office with questions about the ChoiceProcess

  17. Admission into Loiederman, and all MSMC schools, is through a Choice process. • Test results, report card grades, and teacher recommendations are NOT part of the MSMC school lottery process. How Does My Child Get Into Loiederman? The Choice Process

After Loiederman Your Child Can: • Attend one of the five Down County Consortium (DCC) high schools- Wheaton, Blair, Kennedy, Northwood or Einstein. • Attend his/her home high school (based on the student’s home address) • Apply to DCC application-only high school programs • Apply to countywide application–only high school programs

  19. Visual and Digital Art • Foundations of Art for High School Credit • Juried Art Shows – MCPS Art show, Art contests • National Jr. Art Honor Society • Portfolio Review • Workshops with Pyramid Atlantic Visual Art Center • Visual Art Residencies- • Animation • Mosaics • Print Making

  20. Dance • Beginning, intermediate, and advanced level classes. Students can also take Choreography and Dance for Athletes. • Students study modern, jazz, ballet, tap, hip-hop and world dance • Jr. & Sr. Dance Companies • Winter and spring dance concert • Master classes with professional companies- City Dance, Philadanco, Tappers with Attitude, Clancy Works, Urban Artistry and Step Afrika

Perspectives in the Fine Arts • 6th Grade Course • Students learn how to identify the elements of dance, theatre, music and visual art • They gain the necessary vocabulary to intelligently discuss performances and exhibits • Students use their knowledge of each discipline to form their own justifiable opinions about art

  22. Instrumental Music • Challenging music, focus on sight-reading • 6th grade, intermediate, and concert bands • Full string orchestra and chamber string ensemble • Award winning jazz ensemble • Beginning band and percussion ensemble • Partnership with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

  23. Digital Music • Loiederman has a $200,000 state of the art digital music lab with full size keyboards. • Digital music students create music using software programs such as Garage Band and Sibelius.

  24. Choral Music • 6th Grade Chorus, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir • In 2009 & 2010, Loiederman had more students selected to participate in the Montgomery County Honors Chorus than any other middle school. • Chamber Choir selected to perform in Dallas, Texas in March, 2012

  25. Theatre • Exploring Theatre, Fundamentals of Theatre and Theatre 1 A/B • Drama Club • Residencies and workshops with Round House Theatre, National Players and theatre professionals • Main stage productions this year include:

  26. Lights! Camera! Literacy!Lights! Camera! Film! • LMS Student Film Festival May 27, 2015. • Screen and analyze movies. • Produce, Film and Edit your own films! • Use iMovie and WeVideo to edit your own films! • Express yourself through film!

Today’s Schedule • You will have the opportunity to visit fine arts classes, hear from our core academic staff and our grade level team leaders. • Please follow your schedule located on the back of your agenda. • Our Spanish interpreter will accompany schedule 20 • Ambassadors are stationed throughout the gym from number 1 (over by instrumental music) to number 20 (closer to the gym door/stage). • You will be dismissed by your schedule • Please move to your ambassador
