Examples of findings • The high cost of assessment for dangerous and severe personality disorder in secure facilities is not justified in terms of patient outcomes • Parkinson’s plus syndromes cost Europe around €4 billion per year • A combination of CBT & SSRI is not more cost-effective than SSRI alone for treating adolescents with major depression contrary to NICE guidelines • An arthritis self-management programme is not cost-effective compared to an education booklet • Referral to alcohol health workers is cost-effective in reducing alcohol consumption among A&E attendees with a hazardous level of drinking • Early intervention for psychosis is more cost-effective than treatment as usual • Training carers of stroke patients improves carers' quality of life and reduces patients' hospital costs • The annual cost of headache presenting in primary care is around £4.8 billion
