  2. NATIONAL CONFERENCE 6-8 February 2019, SPAV, Vijayawada, India Open Education? What you mean with ‘open’? • Not bound to restrictive licenses (availability of teaching materials); • Not seen as a for profit activity (i.g. students are not ‘clients’); • Encourages the use of open tools; • Focus on critical thinking and not so much on replication. ( OPEN EDUCATION)

  3. NATIONAL CONFERENCE 6-8 February 2019, SPAV, Vijayawada, India So, what does that mean for schools and teachers? • It means that teachers must understand that nowadays people pay for tutoring and guidance, not so much for readers and content; • It means schools realize that open materials are ambassadors of a school (i.g. MOOCs); • It means to accept that the operationalization of the concepts you teach should not be chained to proprietary tools; ( OPEN EDUCATION)

  4. NATIONAL CONFERENCE 6-8 February 2019, SPAV, Vijayawada, India And all of that is great because… • If you had to choose the most revolutionary invention of History what invention would you choose? • I would choose the Press machine of Gutenberg! •      • Closing knowledge became obsolete 500 year ago! 5. NATIONAL CONFERENCE 6-8 February 2019, SPAV, Vijayawada, India But there is more! • Teachers will revise their approach to teaching; • You (and your institution) establish your credentials even before the students arrive; • It creates opportunities for economically excluded people; • Finally if you agree that: • Knowledge  Freedom • Then the more open education is the freer will the citizens be.
