  2. 10th Anniversary 1999 - 2009 Introducing [enter your school name here] through an Incoming Freshmen Portal The purpose of this session is to present the goal for an Incoming Freshmen portal, review its content features and layout, and share methods used to keep the content providers and development team on schedule

Relative Seton Hall University: Profile ^ • Implemented Banner in 2006 • Student 2006 – 2007 • Finance 2007 • Human Resources 2008 • Luminis (soft launch 2008 / full launch Jan 2009) • Currently running Banner 7.2 and Luminis 4.1 *previously used Blackboard as community portal since 1999 • Core portal roles are defined in Banner and integrated w/Luminis using LDI. This allows for a seamless, but tight coupling of account provisioning from Banner to Luminis. • Upgrading to Banner 8 and Luminis 4.2 in Oct 2010

Relative Seton Hall University: Profile ^ • Enrollment: Undergraduate: ~5,300 • 82% of freshmen live on campus • Greatest population from tri-state; increased recruitment efforts showing positive return nationally and international (~10,000 U/G students from all 50 U.S. states and territories and 74 foreign countries) • First-year student retention rate: 83% • Admissions Process: Applicants begin to receive notice in November • Orientation packets mailed in March • Required orientation in June

Business Reason & Requirements • To provide a central environment in which the incoming student can • submit tuition/housing deposit, • complete placement testing, • confirm orientation and reserve family attendance, • apply for housing, • engage in Summer reading activities, and • ‘learn’ Seton Hall (e.g., important dates, campus resources, support services and policies) Priority

Planning and Managing the Portal Layout for ‘Role’ Specifics • Seton Hall’s orientation theme is known as the ‘Pirate Adventure’ – must carry theme into portal • Mailed orientation packet includes the student’s account information and directions to portal • Printed material coincides with online* look and content *public web and authenticated portal

Content Architecture & Feature Review for ‘Incoming Student’ • Four key content areas [aka TABS] • Pirate Adventure = landing tab after authentication; contains ‘steps-to-orientation’, placement testing, general information and info hunt • Money Matters = second tab; contains content related to Financial Aid, Bursar and Housing • Tech Talk = third tab; contains content related to technology on campus, laptop distribution, technology skill assessment activity, and social networking • Summer Reading = fourth tab; contains reading assignments and discussion groups
