  1. Writing and Solving Equations

  2. Write an equation and solve. • The sum of 38 and twice a number is 124. Find the number. 38+2x=124 x = 43 • Four less than half a number is seventeen. Find the number. .5x-4=17 x = 42

  3. Write and solve equation. • Find three consecutive integers whose sum is 171. x + (x+1) + (x+2) = 171 3x+3 = 171 x = 56 • Find four consecutive integers whose sum is 246. x + (x+1) + (x+2) + (x+3) = 246 4x + 6 = 246 x = 60

  4. Write and solve equation. • Burt’s Burger Barn sold 495 hamburgers today. The number sold with cheese was half the number sold without cheese. How many of each kind were sold? w = with cheese o = with out cheese w + o = 495 w = (1/2) o .5o + o = 495 1.5 o = 495 o = 330 w = 165

  5. Write and solve equation. • Brian has $88 in his savings account. If he saves $3.50 per week, how long will it take him to have $200 in his account? x = week 200 = 88 + 3.5 x x = 32 weeks

  6. Write and solve equation. • The width of a rectangle is 15 cm. less than the length. The perimeter is 98 cm. Find the rectangle’s dimensions. w = width l = length w = l -15 2w + 2l = 98

  7. Write and solve equation. • In ∆ABC, ےA is three times as large as B and also 16° larger than C. Find the measure of each angle. A = 3B A = 16 + C A + B + C = 180 3B + B + (3B-16) = 180 7B -16 = 180 B = 28 A = 84 C = 68
