  5. www.globalpublicpolicy.net Key functions of networks • Networks facilitate the negotiation and setting of global standards. • Networks serve as mechanisms for developing and disseminating knowledge. • Networks make markets where they are lacking, and deepen them where they do not fulfill their potential. • Networks serve as innovative implementation mechanisms. • Networks create trust and help to close the participatory gap.

  6. www.globalpublicpolicy.net Management Principles of Networks. • Getting the network up and running requires personal and institutional leadership. • Balancing adequate consultation with delivery is key to success ”structured informality” • Multisectoral Cooperation requires substantial organizational change. • Meeting the dual challenge of inclusion (local-global & North/South) is imperative to ensure legitimacy and sustainability.
