  4. Definitions Re: The Admissions Process • Regular Admissions • Rolling Admissions • Early Decision • Early Action (treat as if EA: St. Joe’s/Penn State/Temple) *ED= for the college EA= for the student • The Common Application (Supplements) • On-Line Application (Download Paper App.)

  5. SEPTEMBER • SAT I and SAT II’s or ACT Registration Be sure to check Regular vs. Late Fee Registration dates. ( You may go Stand-by . BUT $$$$$$$!) • Colleges begin visits to Prep • Senior Questionnaire • Parent Reference Form • Transcript Request Form

  6. OCTOBER • Take the SAT (10/10/09)Take ACT (12/12/09) • Register for SAT II’s: Very Important :read and follow the directions of the schools… DETAILS SAT/SAT II and/or ACT Scores must be sent to the schools by the student via the testing service WWW.COLLEGEBOARD.COM or ACT.COM

  7. NOVEMBER • Early Action Deadlines • Early Decision Deadlines • Take SAT I and/or II and/or ACT Narrow Application Choices • BE REALISTIC( 1100/88: Penn is out) • APPLY !

  8. DECEMBER • APPLY • Please Apply • NO, Really, Please Apply • Prep Parents Financial Aid Workshop: Tentatively 12/10/09

  9. JANUARY • EA and ED decisions due back • FAFSA (Available after Jan. 1st (online) • CSS Profile (Available now at www.collegeboard.com)

  10. FEBRUARY • Some Decisions begin to come out: • Accept • Deny • Wait List

  11. MARCH • Tentatively Select your School • Visit via Confirmed/Accepted Days at the schools • Confirm with a deposit • PLEASE DO NOT DOUBLE DEPOSIT

  12. APRIL Choose: Your School Confirm : Your spot in the class and the dorm Contact : Other schools to let them know of your decision Cancel : Any other confirmation for your deposit to be refunded. MAY 1ST is the Universal Deadline for College Confirmations

Summary For Students • Be Aware of Deadlines • Keep your College Advisor INFORMED of Online Applications, Admission Decisions and Scholarship Offers • Give teachers 3 weeks notice for writing a recommendation • Inform teachers of admission decisions as they become available. THANK THEM w/ a copy of acceptance letter. • Talk to your parents about the process *Do your homework and turn things in on time.

Non- Resources • Companies that offer to find you FA for a fee. • Previous admissions numbers( trends NOT facts) • Previous scholarship numbers (trends NOT facts) • “Amateur Admissions Representatives” i.e. Other People • “I Heard…. “ OR “ I know for a fact…..” • ALWAYS CALL THE SCHOOL DIRECTLY TO CONFIRM INFORMATION

  17. Final Thoughts • Call us with questionsBUT call the colleges and universities for confirmation • The Colleges will misplace paper; Try not to panic • Your have done your job! Your daughter/son is going to college. • Good Luck and Congratulations!
