Senior Exhibition

CRITICAL INFORMATION:

Opens: Saturday, April 4, Noon

Closes: Sunday, April 12, 4 p.m.


SENIOR EXHIBITION

Graduation requirement for all visual art students

Registration is necessary (non-credit course)

The December Senior Exhibition is a combined exhibition for Fall Graduates from all department; the Spring Cycle features individual shows for each department


SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPATION

One exhibition-ready piece presented to jury in Sharadin Art Gallery

Timely submission of complete online loan form

Timely submission of artwork

Meet special departmental requirements

DEADLINES ARE FIRM AND FAILURE TO MEET THEM

WILL RESULT IN EXCLUSION FROM THE EXHIBITION —

THIS WILL JEOPARDIZE YOUR ABILITY TO GRADUATE.


WORK SELECTION

The Fine Arts exhibition is curated by an outside juror. You will submit pieces to be considered for exhibition.

It is unlikely that all students will be represented in the show (only pieces that add to the overall exhibition statement will be included).

Submit your best work regardless of medium and completion date

Need not be the result of course assignments

Available duration of exhibition; cannot be removed

Maximum quantity listed on exhibition schedule

CRITICAL INFORMATION: Maximum 5 works


WORK SELECTION

Only submit exhibition ready works.

Arrangements can be made for the juror to come to studios in Sharadin to see site specific and oversized works. Arrangements must be made and approved, by email, with gallery director BEFORE loan forms are submitted.

The juror can also consider images of site-specific or oversized works. Images must be JPEG format on a CD-ROM which is delivered during drop-off.

We begin installing the exhibition the day after the jurying process takes place. Consequently: ONLY submit finished works that can be installed the next day.


TIME-BASED WORKS

Discuss installations, performances, media works with Director

(before loan form due)

Equipment and arrangements during the exhibition are the responsibility of the artist

Off-site presentations encouraged but not considered “participation”

Performances & media works in gallery during reception at director’s discretion


LOAN FORMS

Web-based -- must be completed online

Incomplete and late forms not accepted

Long titles and long medium descriptions will be edited

Forms for complicated works must include installation instructions


SUBMITTING LOAN FORM

Online at http://www.kutztown.edu/acad/artgallery

Click “Senior Exhibition”

Complete form EXACTLY as you want information to appear on wall label

Click “Submit”

CRITICAL INFORMATION:

Submit before midnight, Friday March 27


ID TAGS

Distributed at next meeting (also available online)

All work must have I.D. Tag

Each component of multiple work must be tagged

Clearly printed, fasten to work’s back

Serial pieces sequentially numbered (and attach diagram)

Mark top of non-representational and abstract work


  • WHAT IS “EXHIBITION READY”?

  • Except for paintings on stretcher bars, all 2D must either be:

  • Framed (most desirable)

    • Mounted (backed with foam core, etc., faced Plexi, held together with bracket hanging system)

    • Clean, equipped with hanging device

  • Fiber pieces and hanging 3D works must include appropriate hardware

  • Works not meeting these requirements will be excluded


  • Not exhibition ready

    Piece has insufficient backing allowing it to bow away from wall


    Not exhibition ready

    Glass with no backing and

    loose hanging wire


    DELIVERY OF ARTWORK

    Deliver to Sharadin Art Gallery

    Students away from campus must arrange delivery

    Gallery will not accept early or late work

    Missing delivery will prevent graduation

    CRITICAL INFORMATION: Tuesday, March 31, 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m.


    JURYING OF ARTWORK

    The jurying process will take the afternoon of drop-off day.

    CRITICAL INFORMAITON: Results of the jurying process will not be made available until reclaimation of declined work takes place:

    Wednesday, April 1, 9:00 a.m. - noon.

    You must come to the gallery, in person, during this time to find out if your work was accepted and to reclaim any declined artwork.

    THE GALLERY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DECLINED WORK NOT CLAIMED DURING THIS TIME


    EXHIBITION DESIGN

    Responsibility of gallery director

    Overall integrity of exhibition guides design decisions

    (possible that works may not be grouped)

    Limited inventory of pedestal & covers

    (occasionally necessary to group small objects by different artists on the pedestal)

    Wall labels and checklist based on information you provide on Loan Form

    (information may be edited for length, clarity, consistency)

    Visitors & exhibition participants not allowed in gallery during installation


    RECEPTION

    Encouraged to participate in reception by bringing finger food

    (departmental advisor has information)

    Gallery provides beverages, plates, napkins, utensils

    Reception generally held in Sharadin Lobby

    CRITICAL INFORMATION: Sunday, April 5, 2 - 4 p.m.


    RECLAMATION OF ARTWORK ACCEPTED FOR EXHIBITION (PICK-UP)

    If unable to reclaim, must arrange for agent to reclaim

    (must arrange in advance with written release to director)

    Photo ID available when reclaiming work

    No alternative reclamation times

    Unclaimed work placed in storage; if no storage space, in lobby

    Stored work only available during next exhibition’s public hours

    CRITICAL INFORMATION: Monday, April 13, noon - 6 p.m.


    The gallery is not

    responsible for damage

    to unclaimed artwork


    ADDITIONAL FINE ARTS REQUIREMENTS

    Submit a CD-ROM containing:

    • At least 6 jpeg image

    • A reference list (Word or text file), that identifies each image file with: title of work, year completed, medium, size (h” x w” x d”).

    • A file containing your Artist’s Statement (at least 250 words in a MSWord or text file)

    ALSO: A printed copy of your Artist’s Statement (at least 250 words)
