  2. What is a Proficiency Award? • An award presented by the National FFA to recognize excellence in a SAE program. • There are over 40 areas of agriculture for which awards are available.

  3. Proficiency Awards • Proficiency award winners are recognized at the: • local level • district, federation and/or area level • state level • national level

  4. Proficiency Awards • Medals and certificates are available free to be awarded at the local level. All a teacher has to do is to request them from the National FFA.

  5. Changing the Proficiency Program! • In 1995 the FFA Proficiency Award Program was changed substantially • Number of award categories increased from 29 to over 40 40+ 29

  6. Changing the Proficiency Program! • In 1995 the FFA Proficiency Award Program was changed substantially • Placement and entreprenuership students are now recognized in each category (if funding is available) Entrepreneurship Placement

  7. Changing the Proficiency Program! • In 1995 the FFA Proficiency Award Program was changed substantially • Two award applications (one for placement and one for entrepreneurship) replaced 29 separate application forms. The form wasmade simpler and more complex.

  8. Why Change? • Expand opportunities for students • Recognize changes in agriculture • Reduce complexity of having 29+ different applications • More accurately reflect modern accounting practices

  16. Proficiency Award Categories • Numbers vary from year to year depending upon sponsorship • At the national level, the top four individuals in placement and in entrepreneurship are recognized in each category (a total of eight). If adequate sponsorship is not available both placement and entrepreneurship are grouped together for judging and the top four are recognized. The * on the slides that follow indicate the twoare grouped in that category.
