ARGOSTOLI is the capital, a welcoming town that shows all signs of British planning. It is the centre of communication and offers a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. Very little remains from the old city which was destroyed by the earthquake in 1953. All houses were destroyed except in the northern town of Fiskardo, the only one which survived this earthquake of 7.2 in the Richter Scale.
There are also some wonderful beach resorts like Poros,
Skala, Makris Gialos, Antisami, Lepeda and Platis.
You may choose among a great range of options which include
ones of golden, grey, red and white sand or with large of
small pebbles and with a shelving sea or strong sea currents.
