  6. Refraction A misshapen Sun hangs like a huge lamp over the evening landscape. As the sun set the lower part grew, it was darker and redder than the upper disk showing that its rays had traveled different paths and had been more scattered and absorbed.

  14. Double Rainbow The bright inner bow is the primary. The outer secondary bow has its color order reversed. The low sun has reddened the bows and cast them high into the sky

  17. Mother-of-Pearl Clouds These rare clouds are sometimes called  . They are much higher and more rare than ordinary iridescent clouds They are 15 - 25 km high in the stratosphere, far above our ordinary tropospheric clouds

  18. Multi-ring Glory Glories are often seen from aircraft. Get a seat opposite the sun and watch them ring the aircraft's shadow - or more accurately, your own shadow.

  19. A Glory and Brocken Spectre Hill walker Dave Newton saw this spectacle on the slopes of Grisedale Pike in the English Lake District in October 2000.

  20. Heiligenschein or Holy Light On a morning when shadows are long and the grass is dew wetted, look at the shadow of your head. With luck it will be enveloped by a sparkling white glow.
