  1. DANGERS TO THE SOUL

  2. DANGERS TO THE SOUL The soul is the immaterial, invisible part of man that will either live with God eternally or suffer eternal destruction.

  3. Matthew 10:28 "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

  4. DANGERS TO THE SOUL The soul is the immaterial, invisible part of man that will either live with God eternally or suffer eternal destruction. The soul is obviously more important than the body.

  5. Matthew 16:26 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?"

  6. DANGERS TO THE SOUL We should always be mindful of the dangers facing us in this life—especially dangers to our spiritual well-being. For our study we will notice three distinct types of dangers to the soul. • Informational ◊ Behavioral ◊ Emotional

  7. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR]

  8. John 8:32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

  9. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] Contrary to the opinion of many, doctrine is important; God’s people must be informed! We need correct information in life. We make sure our children have correct information before we allow them to engage in certain activities.

  10. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] This is especially true with the soul! The Scriptures protect us from doctrinal error.

  11. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  12. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] This is especially true with the soul! The Scriptures protect us from doctrinal error. Truth effectively works in the believer.

  13. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

  14. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] This is especially true with the soul! The Scriptures protect us from doctrinal error. Truth effectively works in the believer. Belief of the truth is necessary.

  15. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  16. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] This is especially true with the soul! The Scriptures protect us from doctrinal error. Truth effectively works in the believer. Belief of the truth is necessary. One must abide in the doctrine of Christ.

  17. 2 John 9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

  18. 2 John 10-11 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.

  19. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] False doctrine is one of the MAJOR dangers.

  20. Galatians 1:6-7 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.

  21. Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

  22. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] False doctrine is one of the MAJOR dangers. Ignorance of truth can be disastrous.

  23. Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

  24. 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

  25. Romans 10:1-2 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

  26. Romans 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

  27. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] False doctrine is one of the MAJOR dangers. Ignorance of truth can be disastrous. Misinformation poses a threat.

  28. Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you.”

  29. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,

  30. 1 Timothy 4:3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

  31. 2 Timothy 4:1-2 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

  32. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

  33. Titus 1:7-8 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled,

  34. Titus 1:9-10 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict. For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,

  35. Titus 1:11-12 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."

  36. Titus 1:13-14 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.

  37. INFORMATIONAL DANGERS[DOCTRINAL ERROR] Yet denominationalists teach that doctrine is unimportant. They have all “agreed to disagree” for their mutual survival. "Preach the man not the plan," they say. But it is impossible to do so.

  38. 2 John 9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

  39. 2 John 10-11 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.
