KOF Index • Introduced in 2002 and covers economic, social, and political dimensions of globalisation. • Kof defines globalisation as… • “The process of creating networks of connections among actora at multi-continental distances, mediated through a avriety of flows including people, information and ideas, capital and goods. Globalisation is conceptualised as a process that erodes national boundaries, integrates national economies, cultures, technologies and governance and produces complex relations of mutual interdependance.

  3. 3 Dimensions Of The KOF Index • Economic Globalisation: Long distance flows of goods, capital and services, as well as information and perceptions that acompany market exchanges. • Political Globalisation: Diffusion of government policies. • Social Globalisation: Expressed as the spread of ideas, information, images, and people.

  4. Personal Contacts • International telecom traffic (mins per subscriber). • Degree of tourism (Ingoing/Outgoing). • Government and worker’s transfers received and paid (as % of GDP). • How countries interact.

  5. Information Flows • Number of internet users. • Cable TV subscribers. • Number of radios (per 1000 people). • International newspapers traded (As % of GDP).

  6. Cultural Proxmity • Domination of US cultural products. • Number of McDonald’s restaurants per country. • Number of IKEA stores per country.
