  1. EMCal work@Grenoble • For 7/11 EMCal Supermodules (3 done) • Led test of delivered stripmodules (from Catania, Frascati, Nantes, WSU) • Assembly (inserting stripmodules in SM crate) • Cabling (US and EU SM signal cables are done @Grenoble) • Calibration (Muons cosmic test bench) • Crating • Shipping and Customs to CERN • Design and production of the STU card • Production of all EU Strap foils (3 SM)

  2. Infrastructure @Grenoble 220 m² assembly building dedicated to the EMCal project -> DCal Project 4 SM can be stored (more if new platforms are made)

  3. Assembly tools All needed tools are operationnal and can be re-used for DCal SM Strip Handling Tool 4 SM Platforms

  4. Cosmic test bench

  5. Cosmic test bench 2 SM can be sitted side by side for combined Assembly / Calibration

  6. Crating & Shipping Procedure for: Loading at Grenoble, shipping, customs, unloading at CERN are validated and can be re-used for DCal SM

  7. Schedule Assembly, test and calibration for 1 SM: (based on 3 SM experience) • (under the hypothesis that the stripmodule are fully equipped (LED, APD etc …) • Strip delivery + first LED test (standalone) :  3 days (1 day / 1/3) • Cabling : 3 days (1 day / 1/3) • LED driver system + fiber assembly : 1 day • Electronics assembly and test : ~ 3 days • Calibration measurement : • 3 passes / 1/3rd 9 days 4 weeks minimum are required to assemble and calibrate a full Supermodule • Manpower (FTE): 1 Eng. + 2 Tech. + 4 physicists

  8. Grenoble possible contribution to D-Cal • Assembly, cabling, calibration and shipping of DCal SModules • Management of all DCal SM cables production at Grenoble. • Production of strap foils for 2 (or more) DCal SM. • If green light from IN2P3. • If no impact on EMCal schedule. • If manpower support from D-Cal contributors. (SM Calibration) • More platforms must be produced to store EMCal-DCal SM @ Grenoble

  9. Cosmics calibration Test and calibration : • Fix any hardware problems (LED, ADPs, cabling, electronics …) • Adjust the APD gain on the overall SM • Calibration performed by 1/3rd of SM • 3 passes required to achieve < 3% dispersion (starting from 15%). • 16 hours/pass (200 to 500 muons / tower required ~15% ~2.3%
