  12. Mobilize Application Instructions Locate the Mobilize icon from the dashboard on your phone. Click on the icon labeled ‘Mobilize’. Access your menu, and select applications if there is no icon on your dashboard. We recommend keeping this on your desktop for easy access. Press, hold and drag to your dashboard.   13. Mobilize Application Instructions Log-in Screen You will be asked to log-in when you first open the ‘Mobilize’ application. Each person has been pre-registered. You will be provided with a copy of your username and password. DO NOT share this information to anyone except your teacher. Touch the appropriate text-field, use the key-pad or the slide-out keyboard on the phone to accurately input your username and password and hit Log-in. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  16. Mobilize Application Instructions Campaign icon You will need to select a campaign to participate in by selecting the add button. The refresh button, next to the add button, which can be used to refresh the My Campaigns list. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  17. Add Campaign Select the Campaign that your teacher instructs you to add. You can choose to immediately add a Campaign by selecting the download button next to the appropriate Campaign (the campaign will then disappear from this list), or Add a Campaign through the Campaign Info Screen accessed through hitting the Title Banner of the Campaign you are interested in. In the Campaign Info screen you can choose to participate, view surveys, access quick reference information about your participation and remove yourself from participation in that Campaign. Selecting the title banner will take you to this page where you can decide to participate. Once you choose to participate the page will change to provide you access to view surveys or remove yourself from participation. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  19. Mobilize Application Instructions Surveys You will see surveys associated to the campaign that you selected to participate in. Selecting the title banner will provide you information on the campaign before making an entry by navigating to the actual survey. Selecting the pencil will take you directly to the survey to make an observation (explained on the next slide). The gray box is a scroll menu that allows you to select a campaign and the surveys associated to it. You’ll note that the list of surveys will change based on the Campaign you select. An additional scroll menu near the bottom of the screen allows you to toggle between all surveys and any pending surveys. You will only have pending surveys if you create a reminder (explained later in this tutorial). Mobilize Application Instructions|

  20. Completing a Survey: The following are questions associated to the Snack survey. Fill out the questionnaire as prompted by the information provided. Use only buttons provided on screen. Mobilize Application Instructions|

Mobilize Application Instructions • When Taking Photos: • Zoom in so that only the item you want to photograph is recorded. • No animate objects (people including hands, arms, etc). • No background identifying images (eateries, kitchen at home, etc). • Observations will be viewed and managed by your teachers and UCLA researchers.   22. Mobilize Application Instructions Submitting a Survey Once you complete your survey and are satisfied with your responses select the submit button to send the information to the server. After you hit the Submit button you will be taken back to your Survey list. Mobilize Application Instructions|

Mobilize Application Instructions Your observation takes a journey… Once you complete and submit your survey the information sits on your phone until it can connect through wi-fi or cell service. The information is then sent all the way to a server at UCLA where it uploads your observation into the Campaign Management System which then adds the data into a repository and makes your responses available to you via the application on the MyTouch 4G Slide cell phone and the Mobilize website. This process may take a while and is contingent on a number of factors. Responses can be made available virtually instantaneously but can take up to 24 hours to upload. If you notice that your responses are not uploading please contact your teacher as soon as possible. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  25. Mobilize Application Instructions Response History There are two ways to view responses to surveys you have participated in. 1. Calendar view – search for responses based on date. 2. Map view – search for responses based on location. Select your method by using the toggle menu near the bottom of the screen. Navigate to the appropriate campaign, survey and date that you would like to view response entries using the menu options at the top of the screen. Indicates the number of entries for the month and total entries overall. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  26. Mobilize Application Instructions Daily View Provides a list of entries made for the day selected Map View Provides a map with flags representing entries made for the month selected. Selecting an Entry Allows you to view the responses to the survey questions made in that entry. Mobilize Application Instructions|

You can force-upload your survey by hitting the icon next to the survey. You can force-upload ALL responses by hitting Upload All. Mobilize Application Instructions|

Never pass the phone to another user before logging-off or they will be able to access your account. Note that all data in your Upload Queue will be lost.   31. Mobilize Application Instructions Additional Buttons Home Button – will take you back to the Mobilize Main Menu. Calendar Button – Found only on the Survey Info & Campaign info screen, will take you to Response History. Reminder Button – Found only on the Survey Info & Campaign info screen, will take you to the Reminders Menu (explained on the next slide). Mobilize Application Instructions|

  32. Mobilize Application Instructions Time Reminder prompts you to take a survey at a specific time. Location Reminder prompts you to take a survey when you are in a specific location. Access the Reminders menu by hitting the bell in the upper-right corner of your screen. Add a reminder by selecting the + button in the upper-right corner of your screen. Mobilize Application Instructions • Time Reminder • Two types of Time Reminders: • Specify a specific time for the reminder, or • Specify a range of time for a reminder • To establish a reminder for a specific time select Reminder Time & select the days you would like the reminder to trigger. • To establish a range of time reminder select Time range and a start and end time. An alarm will trigger randomly between this time range. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  34. Mobilize Application Instructions Location Reminder Reminder Location allows you to select and name the location you would like to establish a reminder. Select the duration for the reminder. Check the box and enter a start and end time. Allows you to create a reminder regardless of whether you are in the location specified. Reminder will trigger at the specified location only after 120 minutes have passed since you were last there. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  35. Reminder Location Select Home or Work by pressing the circular buttons to title your location. This will take you back to the Reminder menu where you can fill in additional information necessary to set-up this reminder. If Home or Work is not an appropriate title for the location of your reminder, selecting Manage Locations will allow you to establish a new title, view and edit existing locations. Manage Locations Tap on a place to define the location of your home or work or view the location of an already established location on a map. Press and hold a place to rename or delete the location. Add a new location by typing in the text box and selecting the add button. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  36. This help screen provides information on how to define locations.   37. Mobilize Application Instructions When you have successfully established a location select the Done button to get back to the Location Reminder menu. Add a Time range and select Always show Reminder based on your needs. Hit Done to set the reminder. Mobilize Application Instructions|

  39. Hardware Rights & Responsibilities Do’s & Don’ts • Do Not: • Lose or damage your cell phone. Equipment should be returned in the same condition that it is received. • Do not take off the labels or any hardware (including batteries, SD or SIM cards) off the phone. • Do not change settings or reconfigure your phone. • Make phone calls (except 911 in an emergency), text or charge purchases which should all be blocked by T Mobile. • Loan your phone to anyone except those on your research team. You are responsible for the equipment while in your possession. Please note replacement cost of the hardware is $500. • Share your unique username or password with anyone. • Include people in your photos (including hands, arms or any other identifying images) or other inappropriate material. Hardware Rights & Responsibilities Do’s & Don’ts • Do: • Bring your phone (charged) & charger to class every day. • Immediately report lost or misplaced equipment to Mobilize Tech Support at mobilize-support@cs.ucla.eduor call us at 818-527-2367 and inform your teacher so we can locate the phone before the battery dies. • Comply with your AUP policies regarding safety, privacy and use of the internet. • Comply with all laws related to appropriate cell phone including appropriate usage for 18 and under participants. • Only take photos of images that are important to this study. • Log-off by selecting Profile in the Mobilize Menu to log-off and wipe your data before handing the phone to the next user. • Log-off any websites you access before handing the phone to the next user to prevent them from having access to your accounts and personal information. • Return all equipment to your teacher by the designated time. • Have fun!   41. Helpful Hints and Trouble-shooting • Contact your teacher for assistance/guidance. If you lose your phone, contact Mobilzie Tech Support ASAP. • Technology can be temperamental, be patient – the phone may take a few minutes to launch & observations to upload. • Can’t log-in? Incorrectly inputting your username and password is easy to do with this keyboard. Try re-logging in and make sure your username and password are accurate. • If you lose your username and password contact your teacher during school. • If you are interested in using your personal Android phone please contact Mobilize Tech Support at mobilize-support@cs.ucla.edu. We currently support Android 2.3 and up. • If your system fails, it will help us to know: • Your name and contact information, • What phone you are using, • What step you were trying to accomplish when the system crashed, and • The error message (exactly as it appears to you) • Please send technical inquires (including lost phones) about the Mobilize Application to mobilize-support@cs.ucla.edu or call us at 818-527-2367.Please provide your name, school, ECS period, a phone number where you can receive a call back and the 4 digit number on the back of your smartphone.
